All other beef teriyaki I've had has been brown. When I complained the server was very passive and made zero attempt to apologize. I work as a server myself in a high end fine dining restaurant and when guests are unhappy we make every attempt to make sure they leave happy. I thought maybe there was a language barrier and that it would be taken off the bill.Imagine my surprise when the bill came and there was a charge for it. I paid it without saying anything and even left a tip.But I will not be back at either location and will tell everyone I know to stay away. There are hundreds of sushi restaurants in the city that don't serve gray beef!
Volcano Sushi is my favorite sushi place in vancouver- very affordable, a good variety. Both locations I've been to are excellent.
Best Sushi place in Vancouver. Very cheap but very good. I tried all rolls (except Tuna) and I never had any complains - always delicious! When you are at the Drive this is a must try.
Our go-to restaurant on the way home from an event attended in downtown Vancouver recently. It was convenient, their neon sign seemed to beckon us in for a try, and there was a parking spot in the lot. So far so good! We (as a threesome) arrived about 6pm, and found no problem getting a table (they're all booths, and only three were occupied at the time). Service to our chosen table came quickly, with menus, dishes, chopsticks, and tea - and then we given a good amount of time to check out the menu and decide what to order. Service remained prompt after ordering, but must admit, it was sure rather cool and impersonal. What we ordered and shared:-- Appetizers: agedashi tofu, and ika karaage (deep fried squid) -- each came with dipping sauces, preparations were 'ok', presentations though, were very poor, lacking colour, and any real visual attraction -- the tofu cubes were lightly battered, nicely-cooked, and the tofu itself, hot, and creamy -- the squid pieces were a mix of body 'rings' and tentacles, lightly battered, and tender, but not very flavourfully spiced. -- Tempura: prawn tempura -- as with the appetizers, a decent preparation, but with absolutely no attractive presentation, just a stack of prawns in the middle of a white plate! - the batter was thin, and crispy, the prawns themselves, just barely 'ok', I actually found them rather soft, lacking the firmness of a truly-fresh product.-- Sashimi: wild salmon tataki -- the daughter and I know and much-enjoy tuna tataki, but had never tried salmon done in this manner, so thought it would be fun to try their salmon - what a major mistake! This dish was a disaster - very thin slices of salmon (not sure what species, but labelled as 'wild'), arranged on a thin bed of what was likely diakon, and some kind of sauce. The salmon was edible, but I was sure unimpressed with the dish's preparation and presentation. -- Rolls: spider roll - one of the various "Chef's Special Rolls" (fried soft shell crab, cucumber, crab meat, w/avocado and tobiko) -- I have eaten a good many different kinds of rolls - some have been great, some good, some not so good, but this one was a disgrace! The laver seaweed covering a touch like leather, the inside stuff dry, and not very tasteful. Edible, but just barely! We came, tried a few dishes, and were disappointed. Upon leaving, I was thankful I had not ordered more!
I am not a big sushi eater but lunch companions say the sushi here is excellent. But I can attest to the excellence of the vegetarian spring rolls, which are yummy. The gyoza is very good too but I could eat a lot of those spring rolls!
