I work around the neighbourhood and passed by wicked today and thought I'd give it a try. They have a huge food and drink menu available, not to mention the large variety of baked goods (some gluten free too) that spread across the food display area. I was surprised by the gourmet sandwiches available but what caught my eye was this veggie pie, which looked more like a veggie cake. An Asian man behind the counter, who later on I found out is the owner, described the pie as layers of yam, eggplant, black beans, corn, and tomato pulled between tortilla wraps. I was sold and decided to get one.<br/ <br/ My verdict for the pie was OK. It didn't blow me away but it also wasn't bad. For the ingredients inside, I felt that it didn't quite match the cost. There was an abundance of beans and corn, which were from cans. I wish there were more pieces of vegetables.<br/ <br/ The place isn't a must visit and it's more like a neighbourhood cafe. The decor isnt anything fancy and you can see all the mess in the back kitchen as there is no doorway between the FOH and kitchen. That being said though I thought the owner provided great service and I appreciate that they are huge supporters of many charity groups. They have you the option to donate to a charity when you are settling your bill at the front.<br/ <br/ I'll be back to try their coffee next time!
We visit the Fairview-Granville Island neighbourhood on our 17th stop in our Search for Vancouver’s Best Coffee. Wicked Café is along 7th Ave bikeway, a common bike route that travels west to UBC. And it has a handy bike rack outside. This is an young, upscale neighbourhood with modern low-rise condos. One new development has a long, yawning banner: “These are the homes that you talked about with your friends last night.”
This is a very good neighbourhood coffee shop. They serve great Intelligentsia/Black Cat coffee that they import from the roaster in Chicago. The staff are quick and courteous. The food is good with a bit more variety than your usual coffeeshop with grilled paninis, eggs for breakfast and soup. I'm partial to their breakfast sandwich. They display work by local artists and the place has a homey feel. Wifi is also freely available. There were some teething pains when management switched over about two years ago but they have worked out most of the kinks and this is a great little coffee shop by Granville Island/Fairview.
Wanted to come here for ages now finally came and what a pleasant surprise. Probably the best coffee I've had in this city and the sandwich was excellent too. Definitely recommend this place to others.
