They are keeping $10,000 of our hard earned cash for doing absolutely nothing other than having a 1 hour details meeting by phone!! We feel completely scammed by this supposedly highly regarded venue! The coordinator Zoe Mercer tried to twist the situation so that it looks like we cancelled, after she clearly stated that they will not be hosting the wedding in May. The contract we signed clearly states that if for any reason they are not able to provide the agreed scenario, the payments made will be returned! They've tried to force us to reschedule to off days in the next few months and demanded FULL payment, 10 days before the original date?!? How shady is that? Especially since june, july, august events over 50 are not likely to be able to happen! Imagine rescheduling once, only to have to reschedule again, and be out $20,000+ for an event that never happened. I would not be surprised if they are trying to collect as much cash as possible before filing for bankruptcy! They are limiting comments on their instagram too. Absolutely disgusting business conduct! The Graci family should do the right thing and give back money to couples who cannot reschedule!!
The Doctor's House is located at the south east corner of Nashville Road and Islington Ave in Kleinburg. Kleinburg is sort of a jacked up hamlet that has an upscale feel but being in what could be considered the middle of nowhere. You could drive right past this little tiny area in a matter of seconds if you're going fast enough up 27 but if you actually bothered to stop in and see you'd probably see that this little area is something special. The Doctor's House is really no different in that aspect in that this place is the big fish in the small pond. This place is quite the facility and sort of reminds me of The Old Mill in Toronto but better. When I say better that's subjective of course because while there's no hotel or spa there is a chapel, a nice large ballroom type space and a relative level of fancy. It was my niece's birthday, her 21st to be exact and it was just a coincidence that we were going to XXI Chop in reference to the address I presume being at 21 Nashville, the Doctor's House is a large complex but XXI Chop is their restaurant at the north side of the facility. This place has such things on display as high end bottles, aged beef in a see through locker and some well lit areas facing the chapel on the back side with a walkout. We came on a Sunday for brunch and while their Sunday brunch is rather pricey, this place is no Shoney's or Holiday Inn Express breakfast kind of buffet. First of all besides the food this place has some really good service. The facility that morning had a huge event, their open house for promoting their venue for weddings and such. This meant the place was packed at the main entrance. Being we weren't part of that we entered through the south entrance and made our way to the XXI entrance because the entire front was completely packed with people registering for this huge event. After getting in we were looked after from start to finish and the buffet is pretty impressive. While I mentioned The Old Mill before, sure they also have a buffet but I'd take XXI over that place any day. This place is much more quiet, intimate, private and hey the food is better IMO. All you can eat is a given but what are the offerings? To blow things up how about all you can eat lobster? It's cracked already and not very hard to get into, crab on the left of the station, jumbo shrimp all this just at the chilled seafood station. Hot station includes pasta, beef, bacon and more. There's a carving station with pork, beef, lamb, fish as well as another for making omelettes, and waffles. Then there's the salad bar and dessert bar. Essentially there is something for everybody here. This was brunch so there was no menu service but honestly there's enough here to cover off just about everything you can think of for breakfast which includes seafood and a variety of meats. I haven't been to the Doctor's House in a very long time but for special occasions this place is great.
I would overall give this place a 3.5 star for the food and service. The seating area and ambience was a 4 star. We came here based on all the positive reviews for this place and I think it was a bit over-rated for what it exactly was. The venue itself is beautiful, the chapel and the garden were kept in well groomed order. When I booked my reservation online, I received a confirmation but I called to add an additional individual and when I called, the male who answered the phone was outright rude. He alleged that I didn 't have a reservation but would put me in now, I asked for the pricing per person, He said it plus tax and tip, of course I know that its pretty common sense but I still got poor service on the phone. Knock half a star off for the poor telephone etiquette. We arrived a bit earlier than our reservations, I guess they were tight on each seating and had to make sure food was ready to serve. We were seated nearby the window and there was a party that booked more majority of the space we were in. The food was an A-Ok but nothing really popped as super delicious or bad. There was the meat station which included roast beef, lamb, porketta. There was also a waffle station and pasta station which we didn 't really get to. What I enjoyed the most was the seafood area with lobsters, crab legs and tiger shrimps. I mainly spent my time there and the antipasto appetizers. All in all, I think this is a nice place to try out but for the price, I 've experienced better food quality.
Great ambience! Always a pleasure to visit the Doctors House for celebration of a special occasion!
It's okay, nothing much to tell. Aside from some nice sceneries and ambiance, and being a fancy place if you wanna show it off. Other than that, i've been there for few times to attend private events, and i've also been to the restaurant during Christmas, easter and normal dinners and lunches, and I just was not impressed! I think the worst part for me is their buffet, it's priced very high giving you the impression that you'll receive top quality selections, but you'll get quickly disappointed. A nice place all in all, but nothing extra ordinary at all.
