We took a group to Taj for lunch and we were very Impressed with the level of service the food is great too!
Located conveniently in downtown Ventura, we have dined at The Taj Cafe numerous times and we enjoy their food, atmosphere, and service. We typically have had items off their chef 's specials menu, such as the Kofta, Masala, and bbq meals and been satisfied each time. Each meal typically starts with some chutney, a cracker like bean/rice bread, and sometimes a potato latke of sorts. As well as naan during the meal. Their mango lassi is good and they have a refreshing ginger lemonade that has fiz and citrus flavors as well as good ginger flavor. We have also had the lunch buffet here and they have a nice spread of entrees, appetizers, and dessert. You can sample across the menu and they serve naan as well. We 've always enjoyed the quirky service, they are attentive, and never had an issue. We 've been to other Indian restaurants in the area and The Taj Cafe is our favorite with their thick and rich flavors.
I went with a large group and the owner didnt want to take separate checks as most restaurants do these days. He didn't quite know how to handle a group of 8. He would take to us as if we were family in a wayy I felt that we were being scolded by him. Non the less the food was good and just had to chalk it all up to an adventure. Even with his nephew running around wanting to sell you tickets on his toy train. Defiantly got that family owned feeling :
The service was great, very friendly and they kept piling on more dishes that we had not even ordered, which became a problem because there was too much to eat. Everyone was happy with what they ordered, I don 't get why the place was so quiet on a Sunday night maybe because it was St. Patrick 's everyone was out at the Irish pubs .
