Nubo Japanese Tapas - Victoria

This restaurant is very small but worth the wait. We waited outside for about 45-60 minutes and we were glad we did. The staff were very personable and the food was delicious. I eat sushi quite often in excellent sushi restaurants in the US and Nubo was very good and had some creative food on the menu as well.

The evening didn't start off well. Their timing for tables was way off, told 20-30 minutes and it ended up being over an hour. Once sat the service was really attentive and the food was amazing!!! Everything was very tasty and well presented.

The Nubo in Victoria was my best japanese culinary experience so far. We had to wait half an hour because the restaurant was full. A good sign.The calamari salad is amazing. All the sushi combinations are really unique and paired perfectly with Sake. The Sake menu is huge. It's hard to make a decision. But the service is willing to help.I will definitely come back.

A refreshing change to the standard sushi bar. Different type of lunch specials which include a large variety of small items along with the main. Good quality and funky modern vibe. Very enjoyable lunch - good food and good ambience. Their spicy tuna roll was substantial - one can just have three rolls and be full!

Show up early for lunch or be prepared to wait. An assortment of fresh sushi, sashimi are on the menu but for me the real lunchtime gem is their $15 bento box. You choose the main - sashimi and nigiri, rolls, chicken teriyaki, and many more. They then surprise you with an ever changing assortment of accompanying dishes. They're like a Japanese tapas - small bites of heaven really. My bento - salmon and tuna sashimi and nigiri - fresh thick cuts of fish. The sides were a gomamae salad with a subtle peanut sauce, a honey roasted sweet potato dish and a smokey egg salad dish. That along with traditional miso soup and an orange slice to cleanse my palate. We left satisfied and raving about the flavours. I almost decided not to write this review, worrying that the lineups may get too long, but that would just be selfish. :-)One tip - though this is a lunch review - don't go if you don't have time and patience. The service is on the slower end of the spectrum because they are busy and the food is prepared with loving care.
