This restaurant is what every person should experience at least once in their lives! It is a traditional family restaurant with great food, a relaxed family atmosphere, community ties, and amazing service. We stumbled on this location totally by accident, seeing local people slipping in. We were treated with such kindness and consideration considering our lack of Portuguese, having the son of the owner help us select food and wine to our taste. He helped us understand the menu trying to speak with us in English and help us with our appalling Portuguese. We loved it and so appreciated being able to dine there. Thank you to all from the two Canadians! We give it 5/5!

This is a very good community restaurant. If you wish for typical (but interesting and well prepared) Portuguese food and prices, this is a good choice. We enjoyed traditional soups, an excellent fresh mixed salad, a “half dose” of very good beef steak (a generous amount for 2 people), rice, and a bottle of premium Douro wine. Our total charge was a little over €30. Our server, Raquel, speaks English well. She was very helpful in taking our reservation and placing our order from the menu. We live in Vila Nova da Gaia near the river and the Monastery of Serra do Pilar. It cost us about 10€ each way in an Uber for the 15 minute ride to Avintes. The restaurant is on a well lit street and free street parking seems available. We will continue to visit this restaurant.
