Dona Elvira - Vila Nova De Poiares

I first visited Dona Elvira's on my very first night in Portugal when I stayed for bed and breakfast and was not disappointed. Since then have been a regular visitor for anything from a coffee and tosta mista to lunch and dinner. The food is traditional Portuguese and never disappoints. The meal of the day portions are huge so choose the half portion! Priced around 6 euros you can eat out every day and not break the bank. The staff are really nice and speak very good English so don't be afraid to give it a try even if your Portuguese is not so good! A group of us went for Christmas dinner, deciding to give the more expensive Estrela da Mo (just up the road a miss this year, and what a treat it was. The service was very quick (unusual for Portugal! , food delicious, wine great and staff just fabulous. We ate and drank till we were stuffed and still only paid 15 euros a head (including a healthy tip! . It is on the main road, N17, with loads of parking so don't drive by, give it a try!.

Restaurante local com especialidade de cozido, cabrito e chanfana, qualquer delas a experimentar. Local a repetir.

Restaurant looks clean and decent, but nothing special. But the food is superb. Perfect goat stew for just €14. A complete grilled chicken costs only half of that. Unbelievable!
