Cat was our server and she was on point. Highly recommend the food and service. Very clean establishment.
We stopped here for lunch today. Excellent food, generous portions and very good prices. Much better than the tourist trap restaurant overlooking the pools where we struggled to get a menu never mind a meal.
We visited late afternoon, we was served really quickly. Food was really nice, we had bolo do caco com manteiga de alho e o picado, the meat was tasty and tender and the sauce tasted amazing.
We like the restauran for lot of years before every time we had came to Porto Miniz, we used tyhis reastaurant mostly. But 2022 was the year of real disappointment. We visited Villa Baleia one time right after our arrival and had found the changes in the cousine in to worst, unfortunately. The food was not so nice we had all the years before (last time we'd visited Porto Moniz in 2020). As the cherry on top of the cake, after finishing we were advised the restaurant is not accepting the credit cards only cash. And got a recommendation to proceed out of the corner to the cash machine. Likely we had the cash with us. The staff explained they have ome problem with the card reader. Hmmm... Just as the matter of curiosity, I'd ask the restaurnt staff next day whether the card reader is working properly and got tyhe same negative answer. In couple of days later I've noticed as the restaurant guests used the ATM machine for the cash withdrawal after the meal... This is a perfect example as the positive impression was created by years, can be collapsed in one moment... No recommndation on the restaruant visiting.
In September I visited this restaurant with my wife and had a very acceptable meal. In April I was in Porto Moniz with my English speaking friend I am also English although a resident of Madeira we had two medium beers each and two bowls of soup the bill was 17€ turns out we were charged 2.50€ a glass of beer. Yesterday 21/6/22 I was in Porto Moniz with my Madeiran wife and an English couple visiting, my wife was looking at the menu the owner came out to try and persuade us to eat there, I asked my wife to ask how much a medium beer was to be told 1.80€ when questioned as to why myself and my friend had been charged 2.50€ he had no explanation. Throwing caution to the wind we as a group decided to give them one last chance We arrived no owner in sight. We looked at the menu my guest wanted to try the Bodião which was on the menu, my wife asked the waitress if the fish was fresh to be told it was frozen and would be defrosted by microwave then cooked. This is a complete sacrilege to such a fine fish and as expected it certainly wasn’t ordered and in fact we were told other than the espada. all fish was treated to the microwave treatment. A beef picada was ordered and delicious Two chicken picada were ordered quite dry chicken which didn’t taste like it had been cooked from raw. My wife ordered the octopus risotto which was really really stunning huge portion stuffed with octopus. We asked for the left beef and chicken for the cats and the risotto for my wife as it really was good to be boxed for takeaway. We had two passable deserts and a round of free but tiny Poncha. Then it was the bill for the first time in my life I was speechless we had charged 3€ for the takeaway containers. Needless to say we refused and the leftovers were taken away. I was willing to give this place a second chance after being charged 70 cents extra for a beer for being English but after last night sorry I would have to say avoid this place. Ripping off tourists who are the lifeblood of the island that is my home is just isn’t on. 92€ for 4 is not a cheap meal in Madeira.
