This was our first time dining in a restaurant since last October. We were very excited and even dressed up for the occasion! The service was very friendly, but the food could have been better prepared. I'm trying to be understanding given the current pandemic situation, but I have to be honest - it wasn't up to par. We ordered chicken brochettes and fish cakes as appetizers, and beef sauté and fried snapper for our main courses. None of the dishes really impressed us. They lacked the flavorful punch that you would typically expect from Thai cuisine.
I have almost tried all Thai restaurants in Montréal, by far this is my best Awesome Tom yum soup, yum salad, and a wide variety of dishes including delicious veggie options Love their sizzling plates!! It's a BYOB which makes it even an awesome place Beautiful decor, welcoming ambiance and courteous service by the family running this nice place Some real authentic Thai dishes by real Thai guys!!
For our meal, my husband and I enjoyed the Tom Yum and Tom Kha soups, a papaya salad, fish cakes, Pad Kee Mao, and Red curry with duck. Every dish was full of flavor, making us feel as though we had been transported back to Thailand. We ended our meal with the delicious and authentic mango sticky rice. While we thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience, the only complaint I have is that the beef in the curry could have been more tender. Overall, I am thrilled to have discovered La Colonie Thai. It is definitely the best Thai restaurant in the South Shore, and one of the top choices in the Montreal area. I can't wait to return and try more of their dishes.
I ordered three dishes: Nina Phad Phet (Beef), Phad Prik Duck (hot plate), and Kaeng Kiew Wan Shrimp (curry). It was a busy weekday, with two waiters providing friendly but slow service. The decor was nice and you could bring your own wine. However, I found the taste to be not worth the high prices, with most dishes costing $18-25 and not coming with rice (which was an additional $2.50). The beef was decent, the hot plate dish was salty, and the curry shrimp was watery and lacking in flavor despite being rated as spicy. The portion sizes were small and did not match the prices. None of the dishes were as spicy as expected. It took over 10 minutes to receive the bill, and my water was only refilled once during a two-hour meal. Overall, I would give this restaurant two stars for mediocre taste and numerous shortcomings, including high prices, slow service, and small portions.
