Small coffee place, with an exhibition of posters about the jewish community from Viseu. The building is nice though.
It is one room with the sad history of the Jewish local community in second world war. A snapshot of the holocaust.
I found a very good coffee here at Elefant and I enjoyed the atmosphere of this one table café. Depending on season this place can be a bit crowded in the summer time before mocanita steam train leaves but this time of year (September) this...place is the right one to have a rest and/or a beer on the porch. Did I mention that they have a museum as well inside?
Fine for a snack, drink , a cup of coffee/tea.Yet. the3-small-room Elephant House is more than just a place to gulp smth down. You can also see a mini Jewish universe, recreated, modestly, in 2 rooms. There lived a very large Jewish community in this northwestern area of Maramures before the end of WWII, who was deported to the infamous Nazi gas chambers and labour camps. Outside the Elephant House, on a small patch of green grass you can a small stone slab and a metal sign: the borderline between the Kingdom of Romania and the Polish Kingdom at the end of WW I.ps.
