Speedway - Waddy

This location usually offers gas prices that are lower than those in Lexington and significantly lower than in Louisville. However, the card readers at the pump are not functioning properly. I often find myself unable to use my discount card, and today it took me four tries at different pumps before I was finally able to use both my discount card and my credit card for payment. Please fix the digital readers—I prefer not to pay inside and guess the amount I need for a fill-up, which is what the cashier suggested I do.

Fantastic place! Ample parking available for trucks, and it’s easy to access. The food is served hot, and they have a good selection of beer.

This place is fantastic! They offer beer, which is a big plus! There’s also a good amount of parking available, including a few spots where you can park yourself. But seriously, the availability of beer is what really stands out!

Unfortunately, like many travel centers in the post-COVID world, staffing remains a significant issue here. This is particularly true in Eastern Kentucky, specifically between Louisville and Lexington, near Frankfort, in the small town of Waddy. This travel center is relatively new, having been built in the last few years. Like many Speedway travel centers, it offers diesel pumps and a Speedway Cafe with limited hours when staff are available. One of the major problems I’ve encountered is the frequent lack of supplies; they often run out of various items due to supply chain issues that affect many businesses today. This includes essentials like coffee and the mixes for Slurpees (formerly known as Speedy Freezes) now that they are owned by 7-Eleven. Despite these challenges, I still stop here often because the Loves travel center at night is typically overcrowded, while the Flying J location is just not worth visiting—I've avoided it for a long time due to poor experiences. When I do stop at Speedway, I usually grab a coffee or a drink and head out. The employees, when they are present, are generally courteous and helpful. However, there often aren't enough staff to handle everything; sometimes there’s just one person working who is overwhelmed trying to keep the place clean, manage inventory, and serve customers. It's important to keep this in mind when visiting.
