Taste of Texas BBQ - WAITARA

I wouldn't have even scored this restaurant a one. I payed $76 for the platter which was meant to feed three people. The smallest plastic plate came out. The ribs were tasteless and completely overpriced. They advertise damper when it's a stale bread roll. The creamy coleslaw is dry and tasteless and comes in a small plastic container. The potatoe salad had a piece of lemon in it. I had to ask for plates and they bring out plastic plates. I meal went to the wrong table twice. I had booked a table only to have a guy waiting for his take away on my table but that didn't seem to be a problem. When I went to complain no one seemed interested. I can see why they make you pay for the bill before they give you the food. I rarely complain but this place was an absolute joke. It was meant to be a birthday celebration for my husband. Wish I had read the recent reviews with the new owners, we never would have gone!!

A hidden gem in Hornsby ???? Fun environment, great unique food, amazing sauces. Happy friendly bubbly service. A great place to go!

Do you really want to eat Texas BBQ for dinner? Maybe. The ribs are not especially bad - they come off the bone without a mortal struggle and the sauce has a nice kick without being too strong. Fries are also fine. But the fried chicken drum sticks don't go down without a fight.I am trying to assess Taste of Texas on its own aspirations, because cholesterol-soaked meat is just what some people want. But if a place asks you to open your heart so willingly (I mean to a future surgeon) it should not also ask you to open your wallet so widely. The prices are mischievously high, *even if* you download their app which offers $5 off your first order. I rationalised my bill by considering it a tax on my bad life choices.The staff are young and well meaning but at one point they did not know which group of patrons had ordered a particular dish, because they did not recognise what dish they were holding in their hands. This is understandable because the menu is a confusing list of combinations of mix of meat dishes, all with arbitrary titles and no pictures to help you (or a waiter) out, with prices being the best guide to how substantial any given dish will be. However, at the end of our visit the staff did spontaneously offer some complimentary fried drum sticks (which we declined).I can easily imagine walking out of here feeling happy-regret, but in this case I just felt actual regret. If you are taken here by drunkenness or peer pressure I would recommend one of the fries dishes (in the $15-17 section) which are lighter on the meat and may even contain a hint of a vegetable.

Had been here several years ago and decided to go again for a treat. We were disappointed. Food was OK but the service was poor and it was very expensive for what we got. A plate full of potato chips, a small bread roll, a few pieces of meat (not even a rib bone!), some sauce for $40, and then extra for an overpriced salad and the smallest bottle of Fanta I have seen!! (They must have been the most expensive chips I ever had!). Staff seemed preoccupied with their take away service. As I said, the food was reminiscent of a Texas Bar-B-Que, but not genuine enough for our USA experience,but the service was very slow, and I am still struggling to come to terms with the price!!

Interesting little place this one. Very small but is a cosy place to go. No alcohol license so be aware. Pub over the road so you can stock up. A lot of the customers seem to be take away but don't let that put you off. Only a few tables so be sure to book otherwise i good easily see tables disappearing. The food. Varying size of dishes, and amongst us all we haf a variety. Some of the dishes do not seem to be very good value for money but others do. So I suggest you check them out before making your choice. Some we found were big enough for 2 people. The staff were busy so a bit of a challenge for them, but they were pretty friendly. Value for money. Drinks were expensive and limited in choice. Some of the dishes were good value and some may be not quite so good. Would I go there again? Yes, as we did enjoy it.
