We ate here yesterday for birthday and are regular fine diver. the last weekend we have eaten in 2 3 stars michelin restaurants. we decided to have lunch. the service was very slow because 6 tables of tourist gathering together. the atmosphere was loud, pub as with most diners wearing hoodies and jeans. I had Ravioli snail that was not coked. I was offered an alternative starter. that was very bland, but it was eaten. the main thing included ochsenkrug and skate and all 4 of the party could not eat our choices because it was too salty. The last time I wrote about Hibiscus, they were a 1* restaurant, the room was brown, yellow and boring and there was an actual a la carte menu of some description. That was of course way back in 2008. Flash forward 2015, Claude Bosi is still the head honcho but most of the staff working here when they opened in London have moved on. Even the room has had a complete makeover with a regal royal blue outlining the white walls. This certainly makes the room a lot brighter particularly during lunch. During the refurbishment, a demo kitchen has also been added for such indulgences like hosting a kitchen masterclass or chef’s table event.
On March 28th, 2015, I decided to use up the remaining days of my holiday allowance by spending some time in London and trying out different restaurants. One of the places I visited was Hibiscus, after hearing mixed reviews from others. I found the house bread to be quite ordinary, but was pleasantly surprised by the amuse bouche - a unique combination of custard, egg, cabbage, coconut, and curry powder. Although the dish was beautifully presented, I found it to be underwhelming. However, since it was complimentary, I couldn't complain. I also tried the wild garlic veloute during my visit.
The double Michelin starred Hibiscus in Oxford Circus is renown for its creative and forward thinking approach in its French cooking.
