Overall, my stay was truly relaxing and comfortable. The front bar might not be the most charming, with hard surfaces and dim lighting, but it was filled with locals, and I understand that they appreciate having a comfortable space to unwind after work. I can imagine it being a whole different atmosphere in winter with a fire going. For motorcyclists and mountain bikers, there's a secure bike lock-up at the back that includes boot racks and hangers, plus enough space for sitting while you take off your gear. The host even gave me the key when I checked in and told me to keep it for the duration of my stay, which was a nice touch. I loved this aspect, and it was the only time I encountered something like this during my 11 days on the island. Overall, it’s a great pub, and I look forward to staying in the commercial room again.
Although I did not stay overnight in the hotel, we had dinner here both on Friday and Saturday evenings, and also on a day lunch. the best place in the northwest for a cozy bar with the most friendly owners. we were made to feel at home, and eating was nice (don't miss pizza and chicken wings at night! . very generous portions and great worth. get the table next to the window and watch the nearby waratah if an absolute jewel in waratah.
Loved this place. Amazing location. Very friendly people. Put us in a lovely room with a view of the waterfall. Made a special meal just for us (because of our dietary requirements). We will definitely be back.
Probably worth a miss. The hotel is in a great spot, with close proximity to the falls but it needs some serious love.Due to an unfortunate and sad occurrence our spa room with waterfall views was unavailable so we were put into a standard room and refunded the difference. The room was very cold, drafty and suffering from black mould. I understand that owning and maintaining a 100 year old hotel is tough work but It needs a serious renovation. We had dinner downstairs and it was ok, nothing special but does the job. If you have a serious allergy be prepared to be met with a menu suggesting you eat somewhere else.If you absolutely cannot drive anymore then The Bischoff will suffice, otherwise stop and have a look at the falls and make the 45 mins drive up to Burnie or further to Stanley for some more appealing accommodation. The 4.3 currently on google is a very generous rating.
I went for a pub lunch and was absolutely disappointed in the seafood platter, nothing but processed crumbed seafood. A single calamari ring, 2 miserable little battered things) 3 crumbed to death prawns, 1 scallop thing really, I had no idea if it was a scallop) and a flattened supermarket style fish piece on a handful of chips with the most woeful $3"oprional salad of a handful of lettuce. I'll stop here because it was truly that atrocious. I'll head back for something like a roast or chicken parmy, but the seafood platter was just utter rubbish and not worth serving or charging **** good money. Sorry to be harsh, but serving crumbed processed fish and crumbed processed bits of seafood is utter rubbish. I'm sure the more traditional pub food is much better. Again, sorry to be harsh, but that seafood platter really was pathetic rubbish.
