I had a wonderful corned beef on rye this time and it was as remembered. I look forward to coming back again. Kid-friendliness: Lots of space and no judging.
One of the best pastrami sandwiches i’ve had. the sandwiches here are definitely a little pricey, but worth every penny that you pay. i’ll be back soon! Parking: behind the restaurant
I’ve been wanting to eat here for a while, having spent time drooling over the massive sandwiches I’ve seen on social media. We arrived a little before noon on a Saturday to a practically empty restaurant, but within minutes a snaking line formed. Desserts are up first, and the noteworthy ones from our group were the lemon poppyseed cake and the carrot cake/cheesecake love child. Definitely get both. Grab a bowl of deviled eggs. They rival my grandma’s and mother-in-law’s, something I will never tell either woman. The pastrami is the best pastrami I’ve ever had, so tender and flavorful. The roasted turkey has no right to be so tasty and juicy when it’s so simple. Weird perhaps, but try roasted turkey with slaw on sourdough with your cheese of choice. It was a happy accident for me. 1/2 sandwiches are still MASSIVE and plenty for a single adult. Consider ordering one or sharing a whole sandwich with a friend or yourself as a leftover. The staff was delightful, all very friendly and hardworking. It’s no wonder this place has been around for as long as it has.
We have been customers since the early 1960's but family has known Shapiro's since early 1900's Food and service used to be excellent! However...... today picked up carryout. Service excellent!!! Staff friendly and vey helpful!! No complaints!!! Food however was terrible!!! Egg roll buns 6 pack carry out orders not quality and taste of what restaurant provide in the past from previous bakeries: Regan and Garfield. Thie buns wer terrible!! flat!. Stale and no flavor!!! Macaroni Cheese. Burned on top. interior not mixed and butter separated from milk and cheese. Getting worse every year! I grew up in the neighborhood! Our family has been buying from Shapiros since before I was born. We always bought as a special treat. Quality of the food I will never buy again! The peppered beef was excellent, but the buns and sides were absolutely not good any more!
To start, this was the worst mac and cheese I have ever had (hard to screw mac and cheese up, but they did). It was runny and liquid with no cheese. The burgers were extremely dry with no flavor. Asked for no onion and guess what, they loaded the sandwich with onions. Overpriced low quality food.
