I had a very disappointing experience at this restaurant. The cafe felt dirty and the staff paid very little attention to us. After some thought, we had to mention that the cakes we ordered were stale and we couldn't eat them. However, we received no apology or explanation, which seemed very odd in terms of customer service.
The cakes appeared delicious, but unfortunately were too stale to eat. When we returned them, we were informed that they are all pre-frozen by the slice, resulting in dry edges. There was no apology given and we had to request a refund, which was not offered initially. Overall, a very disappointing experience. I would recommend avoiding this restaurant.
My friend and I had a lovely afternoon tea at Time for Tea this afternoon. The sandwiches of smoked salmon and cream cheese, Coronation chicken, and ham and tomato, weren’t tiny and thin, but made with thickly cut, really fresh bread. The cakes, banoffee, cherry Bakewell sponge and bread pudding were really good, and we finished off with scones with jam and cream which were also lovely and fresh. This is a great little cafe in a beautiful part of Kenilworth, and it also hosts a variety of community events. Thoroughly recommended.
Looks lovely on the outside but not so lovely on the inside. The table we sat at was a bit dirty to start. The so-called afternoon cream tea wasn’t a pleasant experience. The tea is served in a cup with a teabag and hot water (no teapot) as you’d expect. So I had to place my soggy teabag on my saucer for the duration. The sandwiches were the nicest part, however they arrive on a wooden cake stand which looked very unhygienic with crisps and lack lustre salad placed directly onto this unhygienic-looking wooden cake stand. The cake stand was wobbly with a screw sticking out of the top, where the handle was missing. We got a half a scone per person with the clotted cream already spread thinly on the scone, they were the driest scones I’ve ever tasted (awful) the cakes were also dry, I’d say at least 3-4 days old, definitely not fresh. Overall the worst afternoon cream tea I’ve ever had, and so poorly presented. I can honestly say I never write reviews but I felt compelled to write one on this occasion.
