Tried the cafe con leche and sweet cheese danish. Both were delicious! Prices are comparable to Starbucks. Seating inside and outside. Plus looking around the shops while drinking your coffee is a plus. Would come back for another coffee!
In the oppressively humid heat of the Washington DC swamp ecosystem, arrives the glacial sip of an iced Cafe con Leche. As many of you fine fellow Yelpers know, most milk coffee concoctions in the District are reminiscent of sugar mixed with milk and precisely 4 and a half coffee beans. But at Colada Shop, the coffee possesses a deep earthy flavor that is accentuated by a devilishly sweet dairy component. The cafe con leche reminds me of being caressed by a beautiful Cuban woman embraced by a cool breeze on a beach on the volatile island of Cuba. A reprieve from the tumult of society as one is put to ease by a deliciously dark espresso balanced with a bright Miami sunshine sweetness. 5 5 Stars
So all of my friends love the Cuban coffee here but I'm not really a coffee person, say what!?!, I know, so I opted for the mango iced tea; I could drink this sh t all day long. Random tinder dude from Alaska and I both opted for the empanadas and left completely satisfied; ladies, how often are you ever really completely satisfied by an experience that involved some random tinder dude ; Yeah, Colada, you rock in my book!
This was the first restaurant I went to on my trip to DC this week. It would set a high bar for everywhere else I went to. I started with the plantain chips with black bean dip. It was quite different from what I'm used to with a salty taste almost like regular chips versus the sweet taste I usually associate plantains with. The black bean dip took them to another level. Everyone in my party enjoyed them. My brother and I ordered the Colada Cuban sandwich. The sandwich hit all the points a Cuban sandwich should hit and I was very satisfied. I don't remember what my sister in law and her mom had but they did enjoy their meals as well. The ambiance of Colada went very well with the waterfront that was close by. Very much recommended for a summer visit to DC.
