My daughter and I were turned away on St Patricks day at 1.20 pm. We only wanted coffee an a sweet treat. The place was almost empty but they had full bookings for later after the parade. As we only wanted coffee and the other diners were not arriving for over an hour i was annoyed that they couldn't be bothered. It was my second experience of being turned away as they had plenty of business later. It seemed to me that they were relaxing and felt they had a busy afternoon so didn't need my custom.
A really disappointing visit to the Riverside, a place we normally love going to. We arrived at 5pm and waited nearly ten minutes to get a table as no one seemed to be manning the station. When we did get a table we waited 15 minutes and still no server, not even a drinks order. Finally we had to stop someone to take our order. They said that they 'd send another server down. After another 10 minutes and no one has yet come to even ask for our drinks, we decided to just leave. Complete shambles. This restaurant was filled with staff and none of them were interested in serving us. Imagine what mood we were in having been so eager to go out for an evening. When we contacted them about the lack of service we were given a cursory sorry and the claim that they would get back to is after investigating. Nearly a month later I 'm still waiting for that explanation. The lack of culpability actually explains a lot about what standards they have.
We were staying in the Woodlands hotel just up the Road .. some people had recommended the restaurant. We went over 2 nights and we’re not disappointed, great atmosphere, attentive staff , great food and great value for money . Catering for the COVID environment both inside and out. Would recommend to anyone staying in the Waterford area for a few days
I was very reluctant to write this review but it has been playing on my mind. We went for dinner as a family on Sunday the 28th of May. I have been to the river cottage on many occasions, and the food/service was great, but unfortunately not on this occasion. For starters, I had the prawn chorizo and for the price of €11.50 to only receive about 5 prawns and two pieces of chorizo, it was pretty poor. Other starters were chicken wings cold calamari tiny portions again and the batter wasn't even attached.. we also had to call for service while plenty of staff available, just chatting amongst themselves.. we waited nearly 35 mins for our mains in the meantime our table was not cleared, piling up with glasses and our starter plates still left. The main course was pitiful.. I had the fish and chips as well as others at the table. a small ramekin with chips in it that I could count on my hand, waitress dropped one of the tiny bits of fish that was on the plate, I understand accidents happen but the waitress came back with the smallest bit of haddock I ever seen. €16.50 for the mains. It's such a pity that the portion sizes have srinked in this place because it really is a lovely setting. Overall experience. I would return for a drink but definitely not the food. No value for money unfortunately. Seems to me like most places now are price gouging. Pity.
