Feedback gevenThey have rebuilt after the fire and are now open again. Their hours of operation are as follows: Closed on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday; open Thursday from 4:30 PM to 8 PM, Friday from 4:30 PM to 9 PM, and Saturday from 4:30 PM to 9 PM. I haven't returned since they reopened during the busy summer season, but the reviews I've seen on other websites indicate that the quality is as good as ever.
What a hidden gem! Don’t let the small size of the building fool you. This is where the locals come to dine—and there's a good reason for that. Dinner starts with a choice of soup of the day, or tomato or grapefruit juice, which is truly a refreshing option. I opted for the grapefruit juice. There’s also a small relish tray featuring celery, carrots, black olives, and sweet pickle slices. The server was kind enough to give me a taste of the BBQ ribs on a small plate since it was my first time here. The homemade blue cheese dressing is honestly the best I’ve ever tasted. While rolls were offered, I decided to skip them to save room. I ordered a filet mignon cooked medium rare, paired with a baked potato, and it was without a doubt the best steak I have ever had. It was so tender it practically melted in my mouth, slicing through it felt like cutting through butter. I was pleasantly surprised to find Singlespeed craft beer on tap in this cozy neighborhood spot. I can’t wait to return—I might just indulge in a full rack of those ribs next time!
I've heard about the legendary Hickory House for many years and regretted taking so long to finally visit. It did not disappoint! The experience was exceptional, featuring delicious food, outstanding service, and an authentic vintage Mid-Century dining atmosphere filled with rich wood paneling. Be sure to try a classic cocktail from their extensive drink menu. Our table enjoyed a variety, including Singapore Slings, Salty Dogs, and Whiskey Old Fashioneds. Our waitress, Teresa, was delightful and offered great suggestions; she has worked there for 34 years, so she definitely knows her stuff! The meal starts off with a relish tray, soft rolls, and a salad. The homemade French dressing is so good that some people at our table couldn’t resist ordering extra to take home. I chose the ribs and shrimp, and they were so delicious that I'm already looking forward to my next visit!
Love this place! Tons of really great food paired with great service. A Waterloo institution.
The BEST place to get BBQ ribs, fall off the bone meat and great flavor. Have tried many different places BBQ ribs and the Hickory House has the BEST, no one can top theirs.
