While strolling through uptown Waterloo, my brother and I stumbled upon this restaurant. With no other options in sight and my own indecisiveness, we decided to give it a try. We visited on a Monday, when they were offering a special of Chicken/Veggie Pad Thai for $10, which was a decent deal. The service was fast, but unfortunately, that was the only highlight of our experience. The Pad Thai sauce was watery and failed to achieve the perfect balance of sweet, salty, spicy, and sour flavors typical of Thai cuisine. It lacked depth of flavor and had a strange hint of butter. The only saving grace was their homemade hot sauce, which added some much-needed heat and flavor. In conclusion, if you're looking for inexpensive, quick, and inauthentic Thai food, this place might suffice. However, if you're seeking a more authentic and flavorful Thai dining experience, there are better options down the street.
Thai Sun is my top pick for Thai food in Waterloo. When my dad visited me at university and expressed a craving for Thai food, I recommended Thai Sun. I had been there before with friends and had a great experience. I've tried the green curry both times and it never disappoints. I appreciate that they offer a homemade hot sauce, as I find the base spice level not quite hot enough for my taste (although my dad found it quite spicy).
This restaurant offers a slightly overpriced and not entirely authentic take on Thai cuisine. Despite this, our experience was decent. We were attracted to this restaurant because of its patio, which was a nice feature. The service was good, despite the fact that the restaurant was short-staffed. I ordered a Thai iced tea, which was a good choice for a hot day, although I thought it was a bit imbalanced and possibly more caffeinated than usual. The chicken pad kee mao I ordered was made extra spicy as requested, and I was pleased with the result. The dish was well-seasoned with plenty of vegetables and a nice touch of chili peppers for added spice. Overall, while this may not be my top choice for Thai food in Waterloo, it would suffice in a pinch.
My friend and I came here for lunch a few days ago, hoping to delight ourselves in a Thai favourite pad thai!!! We both ordered a vegetarian version of the chicken pad thai lunch special (tofu pad thai with a vegetarian spring roll instead of coconut shrimp . Unfortunately we were both left disappointed as the flavours were not very prominent and the meal altogether tasted quite bland. I did enjoy the tofu pieces a lot, however, which is why I still thought a three star rating was fair. I also thought it was nice of the chef to be willing to make a few swaps to change the pre set lunch meal (some restaurants really aren't that flexible . Perhaps we ordered the wrong things from the menu! But if it's pad thai that you're after, I'd recommend you come to Toronto and try Khao San Road or Sukho Thai instead :
