The onion chutney with the poppadoms was amazing and the duck Kerala was out of this world! I have yet to try it at another Indian restaurant, but it was cooked perfectly and the meat was so tender. I highly recommend it. I can't wait for my next visit!
The service was very poor and the meal was below standard. We were extremely disappointed compared to our visit a year ago. We had brought friends along who we had previously recommended the restaurant to, and it was a mistake to do so.
I have dined at Don a few times before COVID-19, so this visit was my first in a while, and unfortunately, it was very disappointing. I tried calling to make a reservation for a table of eight on a Saturday, but no one answered the main number after multiple attempts. Eventually, someone answered the second number I tried. When we arrived, the person who I believe was the manager seemed reluctant to seat us. He did not ask if we had a reservation. The table was not ready and the restaurant had only a few available tables due to takeout orders. The manager hastily put tables together and carelessly placed extra settings on the table. The tight seating made us uncomfortable, so we had to move the tables slightly apart. We were offered poppadoms, but the service seemed disinterested. It took a while for our order to be taken, and some in our group wanted to leave due to the poor service. It felt like other customers were receiving priority, causing chaos in the restaurant. The food was mediocre, with some dishes taking a long time to be served. The Don Special King Prawn and Shark Curry received positive feedback, but the Bombay Aloo was overcooked. It took a while to receive the bill and pay, and the service was so poor that I did not leave a tip for the first time in a long time. I would give one star, but some dishes were enjoyed, so I will give two. I do not plan on returning, and I doubt the owners will take any steps to improve.
As with many other reviews, I was also charged about £9 to a takeaway order. I had three items I had never ordered, which obviously replaced the items I had ordered, which were missing from my first call that gave up the order. I found the personal involuntary in comparison to other Indian restaurants and very ininteresting. the menu and the prices suggest they should or try to show that they are a raised operation compared to other local ones, but that is really not the case. we are regular Indian cuisine diners and I can honestly say that eating here is a complete farewell. although not completely slander, eating is best among what one would expect from an under-average Indian farewell. we would never return to this restaurant again and it seems that the don slow in the local community due to the same reasons to lose over charging terrible service and declining food quality. the reviews here aside I know of at least 8 people who have now proposed verbally to avoid the don in the last months. I reserve the opinion for you until I have a personal experience, unfortunately my suggestion would also avoid the restaurant. they should certainly go back to the signboard and restructure in the 3 areas highlighted in this review, which seems to be repetitiw in many other reviews.
Was invited here with friends and must say that it is the best Indian I ever had downstairs. the onion chutney with the poppadomen was amazing and in contrast to everyone I had before was also the duck kerala from this world! they still have to see it in another Indian restaurant, but it was cooked to perfection and the meat was so slim and tender would recommend 100% not wait until my next visit!
