He hadn’t eaten properly for a couple of days prior as he was under the weather today he got his appetite back asked for the small English Breakfast. I was really impressed he ate well tried everything Marillia was kind enough to swap the bacon for a hash brown. My son also got a pack of pens to colour with a squirt with a pretend ketchup bottle! I found the staff were so attentive friendly they gave him the works on a milkshake with cream marshmallows etc. He loved the range of toppings to chose from. We had a lovely breakfast and I left feeling very stuffed. The coffee was amazing
I like this sort of cafe, that does good-value regular breakfasts. It's not easy. To hit budget price, they have to serve non-prime produce, and here that showed in the sausages, which were spammy. But the cafe clearly has good chefs because the fried eggs were served perfectly runny. Tomato was good too. Edible bacon and mushrooms. Tea was catering quality but hot. For the price, this was a good breakfast, which gave me the protein I wanted. Busy cafe, but staff on the ball and service rapid.
We went for a quick lunch between appointments in and around Thatcham. Kingsland Cafe's sandwiches are delicious with a good variety of fillings. Mine was egg mayonnaise and my friends was sausage and bacon. They were generously well filled so well worth the money. We also had a salad garnish which was obviously so fresh and crisp. The sandwiches are made to order. They are not waiting in a cabinet. The staff were attentive but not intrusive and we had exactly what we wanted. The mugs had saucers, too! We had somewhere to put our teaspoons. That's unusual for cafes that serve tea in mugs. Thank you Kingsland; we'll be back.
I have worked in Thatcham for many years and have been a regular at Kingsland Cafe.. Many years ago the place was dingy, outdated and offered bought in sausage rolls, and pasties and even the fresh sandwiches did not seem..... well fresh.. A lick of paint, new owners and the place looks great. Love the decorations and it feels like a warm inviting place for lunch. Today I ordered my usual the veggie breakfast. Its the first time eating in i usually have a take out sandwich since lockdown so wanted to see if it was still good. I enjoyed it.. Cooked well, just the right size for lunch at a good price. I was joking about the hashbrown being crunchy : . What makes the place special is the owners enthusiasm and she takes pride it what she does. From the home made cakes, take a way sandwich or eating in, the food has always been good. Always chatty and friendly and adds to the experience. Would highly recommend.
The server in this cafe made it very clear she considers customers to be an inconvenience that clutter up her place of work and even the merest attempt at civility is too much effort. Doubtless they feel themselves very daunting when bullying the local pensioners. Probably explains why the place was completely empty when I visited.
