Paula's Cafe - West Des Moines

Yesterday, I enjoyed their Thursday special, which featured maid-rite loose meat mixed with Graziano's sausage on a hoagie bun, served with fries and a drink for $9. The addition of Graziano's sausage gave it a great flavor with just a hint of spice that elevated the usual maid-rites. This place offers great value for your money, with freshly made food and an awesome staff! It’s definitely worth a visit! Update: Friday, December 7th. I had been looking forward to the meatloaf special all week, only to find out that the Friday special alternates. To say I was extremely disappointed would be an understatement. The only bright side was that today’s Friday special was an incredible chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and gravy. The chicken was fried to perfection, smothered in gravy just as it should be. I guess I'll just have to come back next Friday!

If you have fond memories of Maid-Rite sandwiches, you'll definitely enjoy this place. I use the word 'remember' because, while some Maid-Rite locations still exist, they are quite rare. The restaurant is clean, and the staff is friendly. However, if you have a sensitive stomach, you might want to think twice about dining here.

Definitely check this place out! I tried the original made rite with mustard and pickles, and it was fantastic. I can't wait to return!

Charming, adorable, and a top-notch café! The maid-rites are hearty and arguably the best in the area. The service is friendly, the menu has a great variety, the pies are excellent, and everything is very reasonably priced. They're open from 11 AM to 3 PM, and they do get busy quickly! If you haven't been to Paula's yet, definitely stop by—I’m sure you'll want to come back, and I know I will!

Paula's is an excellent diner in Valley Junction. My colleagues and I visit there every week.
