However there was a group of 5 females and one male sat at the next table who completely flouted the covid advice. Whist one female member of staff tried to get them to conform a male member wh i took to be the manager did the complete opposite. He sat with them after lifting up his face protector. He continued to serve drinks when they were obviously intoxicated. They had visits from friends making the group much larger than the permitted 6. The kissed and cuddled visitors to the table and wandered around other tables sitting on friends kneeas and shaking hands having complete disregard for other customers. The manager was also making no effort to restrict the number of customers. Even when all tables were taken he was inviting people into the bar to wait until a table became free.
This is a traditional pub with a good atmosphere. The service was really friendly and the beers really good. Will definitely go back when next in Witney.
This pub should be congratulated for remaining a genuine British Pub. A friendly landlord welcomes you behind the bar. Good service. Great beer. Old world surroundings interesting photos. So many of Witney pubs have changed and lost their character over the years becoming “foodie” places that look down their nose at people who just want a drink. The Eagle Tavern retains its character and welcome.
Arrived back in Witney after a meal in Oxford and dropped into the Eagle. As usual the beer and atmosphere are both great. Hooky Gold in great Nick.
A nice friendly little pub, with traditional style and excellent Hooky beer on tap. Just right for a convivial evening meet with colleagues 7 of us met up for a few quiet beers and it was good to be in a proper pub again. A sign on the door announce 'No Children ' excellent, no having to endure ill disciplined kids running around the place.
