Tussock Bar Restaurant - Whakapapa

This is a great spot for a drink, especially after a long walk in the mountains on a chilly day. The pub has a warm and welcoming atmosphere, exuding that classic pub vibe. If you sit by the window, you can enjoy stunning views of the snow-capped mountains. The first thing that catches your attention upon entering is the large fireplace, accompanied by the comforting crackle of burning wood. I settled beside the fire while enjoying a drink, and I felt cozy and warm in no time. The drinks are reasonably priced, and there’s a good variety to choose from.

Last weekend, my partner and our two children dined at Tussock Bar, and I would highly recommend it! The service was excellent; our server was incredibly friendly and accommodating, making it easy to chat with him. The food was fantastic for both us and the kids. You could tell that the chef truly cared about his dishes. Instead of just a standard bowl of fries, we received a generous serving of crispy, well-seasoned fries that were absolutely delicious! Everything else we ordered was equally impressive. It's a wonderful spot for families looking to enjoy a meal away from the chateau, just a short stroll down the road.

Typical pub food, with generous portions. We visited on a quiet evening before Easter weekend their Google opening times said they were closed, so don't be shy to stop in and double check you might just find them open! Family friendly with board games to use, 2 pool tables and an old air hockey table (the scoring on the machine seemed to be a bit off, which meant a longer game, but I'm pretty sure I got robbed of a win! The staff were friendly and helpful.
