We had a fabulous diner hereEverything was fresh and tasted very good.
For what it's worth, I come from Portland, a place that prides itself on great cuisine, and I found Giraffe to be as good as it gets.
The restaurant took our reservation early in the day and we felt fortunate to have a spot on their small deck in the summer. Upon arrival they had secured our table and we were seated instantly. The waiter knew the menu well and had a cute chalkboard to show us the specials. Water was provided and frequently topped. Wine was poured for us from the small decanters rather than just a large glass of wine. Linen tablecloths and napkins. The chairs were comfy but perhaps a bit too low from the table which meant we both had to sit upright rather than relax. Candles were provided later in the evening. The deck has some lovely ivy and flowers which helped to divide us from the busy sidewalk. This time of year the beach traffic is loud and busy but we were still able to enjoy each others conversations. We were given a cute giraffe chocolate when we paid our bill. The washroom was clean and in decent condition.I had the bavette steak $24 and my friend had the angel hair pasta with seafood $29. Both of us enjoyed our meals. The wines were acceptably priced. The service was professional, prompt and appropriately matched to the prices of the menu. I will recommend this restaurant to others.
I visited the restaurant on Saturday evening (took a friend for her birthday; it was supposed to be a special occasion). It was anything BUT. I have been to this restaurant many times in the past which is why we went again. This time however I was very disappointed in the quality of the food. The food was bland and was not presented nicely on the plate. I had the Angel Hair Pasta which was terrible. I couldn't finish it. It was bland and just a blob of pasta in the bowl. My friend's meal, the Pacific Halibut was okay but there was absolutely no presentation on the plate. It was bland. The appetizer of Thai Prawns was fabulous. Perhaps we should have stopped there. The dessert, Irish Whiskey Crème Brulee was also very good. I agree with a previous writer that the restaurant is starting to look shabby and run down. It could use some sprucing up. The meal cost $158 (including tip) which I thought very high for the caliber of meal we received. Would we go back? Not sure! If the owners take note and do something about it then yes. Otherwise likely not.
