I found it odd for a restaurant to not have gravy. It was better when it was Camparis as they offered mussels. I will not be returning unless I want to have a drink by the sea.
I have visited Hollyhock several times as I live in Port Melbourne. The food is always outstanding, especially the steak which just melts in your mouth. The restaurant has a great atmosphere, pricing, and location. However, the service is a major letdown. On my last visit, I had to wait 15 minutes before I finally asked a waitress if I needed to go to the bar to order a drink. She then brought out the food without asking if we wanted another drink, and when we asked for more water, she brought over a bottle and only one glass, not bothering to offer a second glass. This lack of attention to customer service is a recurring issue at Hollyhock, and as an owner, they should be aware that they are losing business because of it. I would have happily spent an extra $50 on drinks if someone had bothered to ask if we wanted one.
A group of six of us, including 4 adults and 2 young children, decided to have lunch at this cafe in Port Melbourne. The location was great, with views overlooking the water on a sunny day. Despite my brother-in-law making a reservation in advance, they couldn't find our booking. We waited for quite some time before my brother-in-law asked about our food, to which the manager did not apologize. It took about 40 minutes for our food to arrive, even though there weren't many customers on a weekday. The Grilled Lamb Cutlets with a herb macadamia crust were lacking in flavor and even adding salt didn't help. The price of $31.90 was disappointing for the quality. The seared scallops and arancini balls were decent, but my iced chocolate lacked sufficient chocolate and tasted too milky. We'll be trying a different place next time.
Sitting by the water what better location than this. Lovely menu and lamb cutlets with macadamia crust absolutely mouth watering and cooked to perfection.
After a walk along the pier, perfect end to a sunny afternoon was sitting out (or inside if you prefer), on the deck of hollyhock, enjoying a wine and light lunch. The staff were very accommodating with creating a meal for me as a vegan and the food was fantastic and the effort much appreciated. Lovely decor that compliments the surroundings. We would recommend hollyhock to couples, families and friends.
