This place mainly focuses on serving cheap commercial beer, pokies, and TAB betting. I tried a beer that was on special and the price was really good, but the quality was just average.
I had a quick lunch at this restaurant with a group. The menu was very limited but the food was decent. The steak in the steak sandwich was tender, the pie was tasty, and the chips were good. However, the burgers are not made on site and there is a stale smoke smell, likely from the outdoor smoking area. The service was okay but not fantastic. Overall, it seems like the restaurant may lack a bit of attention to detail and care.
This ALh Group/ Woolworths hotel may look like a classic brick 1915 1930 building from the outside but inside it 's been extensively renovated in recent times. The bar and pokies areas are carpeted which reduces noise. The dining has been rebadged as Bob 's Diner and is in an area seating perhaps 40 with some bench seats look to be Australian hardwood and smaller tables with steel chairs that have cushions. Everything was super clean including toilets. We were then mid afternoon on a Sunday and so ordered at the bar. Staff were efficient. Our burgers took 25 minutes to arrive and were huge, particularly the A$16 'Bobtastic ' with its double patties, cheese and bacon. A small accompanying salad was $4 and a large lemon lime and bitters $4.80. I saved five per cent by using my free Monty 's Rewards card that is available at any of about 300 ALH venues around Australia. The patties in the burger were moist while the bacon was good. All up it was very good value. There is also a range of other options such as a pizza, fish and chips and a limited number of desserts. Take the family. It 's suitable for children as well as adults.
Obviously owned by some corporation only interested in maximizing returns. A fair amount has been spent updating the interior but none was spent in the toilets which are decrepit and disgusting. It has a chain sort of restaurant inside, Bob's Diner, but the signage states that alcohol can't be consumed there! Full of pokies and gambling options.
The range is disappointing with burgers, steak sandwiches, fish and chips, and pizzas. Nothing for the vegetarian diner and the meals were without vegetables, just salad and chips as appropriate. I had a burger (chips were extra) and it came on a wooden board (I thought that had gone out of fashion). The pokies were busy and the multiple TVs, on different channels were disturbing. I would have sat in Bob 's Diner where the food was prepared, but the sign said no alcohol here.
