I decided to try this place on a random Sunday night in early January after seeing its great ratings and some TikToks about it. I ordered the chicken and saag rice, which was really delicious, but the fiery meat didn’t quite hit the mark. The restaurant was a bit empty, so there wasn’t much of an atmosphere to enjoy. Our server was good, although a bit too chatty and kept stopping by our table to discuss random topics. Overall, I highly recommend the food; it was really tasty, and having hot sake is always a nice bonus!
I ordered a Lodi red blend wine, which I really enjoyed, and the Malbec was also quite good. For starters, I had the seaweed salad and tom yum soup, both of which arrived in about five minutes and were delicious. For my main course, I tried the chef's choice specialty roll, which changes nightly and is crafted by the sushi chefs. My waitress recommended it, and I was glad she did. It included an array of ingredients such as baked sweet potato, North Carolina crab, and tempura shrimp, all topped with tuna, avocado, spicy mayo, scallions, and black garlic shoyu (a fancy type of soy sauce). It tasted very fresh, and I appreciated the effort that went into its preparation. The atmosphere was lively yet intimate, with a hint of eclectic charm, making it the perfect spot for a date night, a solo outing, or a small gathering with friends. My waitress, Lena, was fantastic! She provided great recommendations and checked in on me just the right number of times—enough to be attentive without being intrusive. Many of the staff members were quite friendly, contributing to the overall positive experience.
If I could give this place 20 stars, I would. My friend and I were able to get a reservation pretty quickly on a Friday night and were greeted by the NICEST waitress. The restaurant is on the second floor above Husk, and it was gorgeous inside. Very aesthetically pleasing. We both ordered drinks, and I got the Rising Sun, which has Tito's vodka, sake, and raspberry purée (pictured). It tasted like a hard cider (random, but delicious I had 2 haha). We then ordered two rolls, which aren't pictured here. The restaurant ended up bringing us the wrong rolls (pictured), but they were SO good. Not what I would have naturally chosen, but so glad we got them. Because they did this, they ended up bagging up our original rolls to go and giving us cheesecake on the house. The manager was extremely sweet, and they went over and beyond our expectations. I will definitely come back here again!! My favorite sushi so far in Wilmington.
I have waited 6 mo. to try Yosake, and was super excited. After eating here I was disappointed. Here is my official rating out of 5 stars. Atmosphere 4 stars Service 4 stars Food 3 stars Value for your money 2 stars. Overall I would give Yosake 3 stars. The sashimi was 4 stars but the specialty rolls 3 stars at best and that is being very lenient. The specialty rolls were very Americanized and not authentic, and that's what I was hoping to get when I came to Yosake. Yosake is a good place for new sushi goers or folks that want to eat sushi, but don't want to taste the fish. My final rating is 3 stars.
