I left the Motorway and negotiated my way to the sleepy village of Ogbourne St George, following the signs for Parklands Hotel. Pulling up outside I was delighted to see that non guests were welcome for lunch and so my Wife and I and my 2 Sons (8 and 4) decamped the car and filed inside looking forward to refreshments and some relaxation. After calling out hello several times with no response my Wife took the boys to use the rest rooms whilst I carried on trying to raise some attention. I was finally met in the restaurant by someone I can only assume to be the proprietor of whom I asked I wonder if we might be able to have some lunch please and whose response with an almost smirk on his face was no . He then explained that he didn 't do lunch on Wednesdays but without a suitable explanation as to why and with the signage at the front of the establishemt clearly stating luch was served daily I can only assume the reason was that he couldn 't be bothered! Perhaps he 's never heard of Trip Advisor!!!
During my 2-night stay, I enjoyed both breakfast and dinner at the restaurant. Although I usually don't eat cooked breakfasts, the options looked appetizing and were beautifully presented. Dinner offered a small yet diverse selection of courses, which I found satisfying and flavorful (though the chili was a bit salty). Some items on the menu were not always available, but the staff handled this issue politely and pleasantry. I appreciated the restaurant's commitment to sourcing ingredients locally.
We stayed overnight and had dinner at this restaurant. There was a good selection with a vegetarian option available. I ordered the chilli with baked potato, but was disappointed to find extra potato and butter added. The chilli was not too spicy. I complemented my meal with a pint of cider. Overall, the food was very good and priced at £8, which I found to be very reasonable.
I have nothing but praise for this restaurant. I enjoyed three fantastic meals there, including two meals for 10 people each, and all the food was served together. Bentley, the chef, is truly skilled and provides a great dining experience.
