It came with delicious rye bread and white baguette, nice unsalted butter, and was thick and flavorful with big chunks of broccoli and cauliflower, topped with a drizzle of herby garlicky oil. Everyone around me seemed to enjoy their meals as well, with the only complaint being that there was too much food! The only downside was that the lady behind the bar seemed a bit abrupt and unfriendly, although she was efficient and prompt. This may not be the best choice for vegans or vegetarians, or for those expecting trendy ingredients on the menu or a hipster server. However, if you appreciate well-done old-fashioned fare, I recommend giving this place a try. You don't have to be old to enjoy classic dishes!
During our recent stay in Lower Westwood, we dined at The New Inn twice. The Sunday lunch was absolutely delicious. Two members of our group ordered the belly pork, one had beef, and another chose the chicken - all dishes were very tasty. We returned for the evening meal and were impressed by the wide selection of options, including venison pie, liver and onions, steak, and goat's cheese with new potatoes and vegetables. Once again, everything was superb, including the desserts. The service was excellent and we felt very welcomed. We will definitely come back when we are in the area. You will not be disappointed if you have the chance to visit The New Inn.
Excellent pub. Great, home cooked food and wonderful, friendly service. Couldn’t fault it! The food was freshly cooked and utterly delicious. Would definitely return if in this area again.
We were visiting the area and saw this pub on google maps with a 4.9 rating so we stopped for Lunch. Have to say we don’t agree with 4.9, totally a 5! Really lovely pub, helpful friendly staff, great atmosphere and fantastic food. Good size meals meant it was hard work forcing down the Eaton Mess and Ginger cheesecake after!! Spoke with the owner who told us he also own a local farm and supplies the restaurant where his son is the chef. Looks like a great partnership in our view as the meals we had were delicious. Thoroughly recommend and if we’re in the area again we will be stopping at the New Inn again.
We started with shared garlic pizza bread. Neither of us enjoyed it. My wife had liver and bacon. The liver was overcooked and over seasoned. The presentation was poor. I had a burger. The burger was served as a huge stack topped with onion rings. I had to ask for a side plate to dismantle the fashionable but impractical creation as the meal was served on a board barely big enough for the meal. The onion rings contained precious little onion but some very light batter which disintegrated when trying to eat them. The burger was very very well done, dry and unpleasant. The chips were absolutely superb. I asked for ketchup, which was served in an unmarked squeeze bottle and was not the best quality. The primitivo wine was very warm. We were tired after a long journey and didn't have the energy to complain. Needless to say, we will never return.
