We enjoyed a variety of small plates including olives, padron peppers, fried squid, olive tapenade bread, sautéed prawns, and delicious draft beer. The cozy restaurant had a crackling log fire and comfortable seating options with sofas and chairs. In the warmer months, guests can dine outside by the river, with both covered and open seating available to enjoy the beautiful setting.
The food is fantastic and the prices are reasonable. The restaurant also offers stunning views overlooking the Thames.
We love the food and the decor in The Red Lion, it really has the bones of a good English Gastro Pub. Although the food is pricey you certainly get what you pay for in terms of quality and quantity! However the service we received on Saturday was shocking. We were left for 25 mins before our food order was taken, considering we had a toddler with us this was just not acceptable! This continued to be the theme for the entire lunch. Our plates were cleared but no offer of dessert menus and we had to ask for them. We were not checked on at any point during our meal, no offer of taking more drinks orders and had to ask a member of staff to take our dessert order and when I ordered a coffee with the desserts it was nowhere to be seen and I asked for it to be cancelled. I understand lunch times can be busy but by the time we had finished our mains there were only two other tables in the restaurant and although the two young staff were clearing down tables they were laughing and joking amongst each other and neglecting paying customers on multiple occasions. We have previously raved about The Red Lion and brought our friends here to celebrate a personal achievement and regrettably we left our lunch feeling rather sour at our experience.
It's Very naughty adding 10% service charge though
