Our host was passionate about the food, asked us about our preferences, and made recommendations accordingly. The freshly made dishes made a noticeable difference in taste. We ended up ordering too much, but they kindly boxed up the leftovers for us to enjoy later. I have had a lot of sushi before, but I can't remember any being as good as this. As big fans of South East Asian cuisine, we believe Unicorn West End ranks among the best in the area.
The atmosphere is delightful, the staff is friendly, and the food is excellent but a bit expensive. I will definitely come back again.
The menu at this restaurant is fantastic, and the staff is always friendly, making for a pleasant dining experience. My wife and I are regulars here because the food is always fresh, plentiful, and delicious. Last night, on May 19th, my wife tried the Malaysian chicken curry with coconut rice while I had my favorite, King Prawn Mee Goreng. The owner, Joyce, is happy to customize the dishes to your liking, adjusting the spices to suit your taste. The restaurant offers great value for money with reasonable prices and a good selection of drinks at the bar. If you're unsure about the menu options, Joyce is more than willing to explain the ingredients and dishes. Overall, it's an excellent restaurant with great service and tasty food. - Dr. L. S. Reeves
I wasn 't sure what to rate it as the food and restaurant are lovely, plus it 's nice having something a bit different in Melksham. It 's just the woman who seems to run it is a bit abrupt and non accommodating, so gave 4 stars instead of 5. I 'm not a big meat eater but I love the Asian sauces to pour over the rice and often waste the meat, so I asked if I could have less meat and more sauce. Then the woman just said 'no, I have it like it comes. ' I wasn 't sure if maybe she just didn 't understand me as my request to have less chicken was in their favour, so repeated, 'so I can 't have less chicken and more sauce then? ' Again she said no I have the portion it comes in and that 's it. I found it a bit confusing, as most food places take requests for small changes. Maybe she just didn 't understand, but then her English was good enough to run a restaurant, so it confused me. It 's like others have said, great food but service is lacking. Everything else is great, as the food is lovely and I would have given 5 stars if the management were more accommodating. I 'm also confused about the name, as the menus say it 's The West End, but the receipt says it 's The Unicorn Restaurant. There 's no indication on the outside of the pub it 's a Japanese/Malaysian restaurant. I lived in Melksham 5 months before I found out it was in that pub.
My family, 6 adults and one toddler had an amazing evening at the resturant last night. Joyce and her staff provided excellent service and food which was plentiful and the taste was amazing. If you have not tried Malaysian or Japanese food before then this is the ideal resturant to try it. The extensive menu covers many different types and the staff are only too willing to explain any part of it. The dishes you choose can be prepared to your own taste, Prices are really modest whilst the amount of food is plentiful. I cannot recommend this resturant highly enough It is well worth a visit, you will not be disappointed. Dr. L. S. Reeves
