18 - Windsor and Maidenhead

We booked for Sunday lunch for our wedding anniversary and upon arrival were given a choice of tables to allow us to see the view of the castle. We were served throughout the meal by the very charming Magda who asked early on in the meal if we were celebrating a special occasion. We enjoyed the starters of Welsh rarebit with poached egg ans beetroot walnut salad. Mains were the fish curry with buttered rice and the Chicken Foreistere, both of which were excellent. Magda was attentive without being over bearing throughout the meal and we retired to the lounge for a tea when she arrived bearing a plate of goodies and piped in chocolate on the plate was Happy Anniversary . Both my wife and I were very touched. Having visited the Marco Pierre White chain before in other locations and been happy we would unhesitatingly recommend the restaurant in the Castle Hotel.

We went there to celebrate Mothers Day. The place was fully booked but managed to get table with nice view. And that was the only good part about this place. We are not fussy eaters and we always enjoy our meals. My husband ordered ribs. His food was absolutely disgusting, the ribs were so old you couldn't even bite it! He refused to eat it and wanted to speak to the waiter but she refused to accept that the food wasn't fresh. As always I had calamari for a Starter. After 2 hours from eating my dinner I was so sick I thought I'll have to go to A&E. I don't remember ever being so sick over the food. I didn't have any alcohol with my food but I felt like drunk. Despite of complaining about the ribs we had to pay the full bill.

The ambiance of the hotel, bar and restaurant are great for an evening dinner. The service in the bar was excellent while we waited for our table, Once seated, our orders were rapidly taken and the wine brought to table....then we waited...and waited. It took 45 minutes for our dinners to arrive Our waitress avoided looking or approaching our table after the first 15 minutes! I will say that the food was excellent once it did arrive, but the overly long wait did spoil it somewhat!

Enjoyed everything! Food, service, ambience. I had the fish curry a mild curry including salmon, cod and shrimp. It was wonderful! The starter we chose was prunes stuffed with mango and wrapped in bacon. Wow!
