Unable to find the HK Diner type place I visited the last time I was in town, I literally pulled over to the next closest thing I saw - some random place called "Spoon".Eh, I'm on business... why not, right? My meal was a Black Sesame Tonkotsu Ramen with extra noodle and a Ramen Egg.To be honest, I was somewhat skeptical of what I would receive - I've tried Ramen in Toronto, let alone outside the GTA, where the "Ramen" was basically overcooked noodles served in slightly seasoned hot water. This wasn't bad at all.The broth itself was rich and flavourful. It didn't quite taste like some of the more authentic stuff I've had on the West coast where you can taste the soft cartilage in the soup, but I'd say it stacks up to the more typical places pretty good. The noodles were well prepared (i.e. not cooked to death) but they were, understandably, the prepackaged kind.Ramen Egg was well prepared, and not $2... probably a first for the Eastern seaboard.. at least for me, anyway. My only real "complaint" is that the pork belly slices were a bit small, and I think were overcooked slightly.I don't normally comment much on service, but I have to say.. maybe it's because I was the only person in there, but the service was very good. There was no rush to get my order. The waiter made sure I was comfortably seated before asking what I wanted to eat.Now that I think about it... maybe I'm just used to the below average service of Chinese places.. :PSo, in conclusion, a random place tried, where the result was successful.Looks like I found a new place to visit regularly in Windsor.
Sooooooo gooooood. It was a cold blustery day and I had heaven in a bowl of ramen for a while. It's like eating an entire meal. I just wish it wasn't so expensive, but on the other hand it was soooooo good it didn't hurt so much to fork over the cash.
This is probably the only good ramen place in Windsor. The bouillon is rich and flavourful. My favourite is the black garlic oil tonkotsu ramen. It does get pretty cold in there on some days, however, so bundle up accordingly. I know the hot soup is bound to warm us up, but it can still get cold. The gyoza are also good. I would like to try their curry, but always end gravitating towards a ramen. Only suggestion would be to increase the amount and variety of meat. Just two think slices of pork belly is a little slim.
The shop in a random strip center doesn't look like much form the outside, but it's cute and warm inside. With chalk board menus on the wall and handed to you, the selection isn't huge, which helps folks who may need some helping deciding what to order. The eel bowl was great, as was the shouyu ramen. The service was friendly, but not overly attentive.
During a recent business trip to Windsor, I was in search of some lunch and came across a place called Spoon, as I couldn't find the HK Diner I had visited before. I decided to give it a try and ordered a Black Sesame Tonkotsu Ramen with extra noodles and a Ramen Egg. I was pleasantly surprised by the rich and flavorful broth, which was a step up from some disappointing ramen experiences I've had in Toronto. The noodles were well-prepared and the Ramen Egg was a nice touch. Although the pork belly slices were a bit small and overcooked, I was impressed by the overall quality of the meal. The service was also excellent, with the waiter taking the time to ensure I was comfortable before taking my order. Overall, my experience at Spoon was successful and I will definitely be returning to this new find in Windsor.
