The restaurant was very unpleasant. The waitress forgot about us, even though we were the only other group in the restaurant.
I have my preferred sushi restaurants, so when my sister suggested we go to the place with the worn-out sign, I was not very excited about the idea.
The only thing good here was the food. The waiter got us our water within five minutes which was good, but asked if we could order cause we knew what we wanted but he said "Ya sure I will be right back though"So we waited..and waited....and waited...and waited!!!! thinking he forgot about us we got another server that was willing to take our order, and she even got us our food. We saw our server but he didn't come by to check on us, no one did once we got our food. Then we asked our first server (the guy) if we could have our receipts. He said "ya sure" so we waited....and waited...and waited...and waited!!! seriously this guy is the worst server. We ended up going to the front to pay, and they didn't even know who had what, the cook in the back was yelling in Chinese at the other guy trying to organize the receipts...while I was trying to tell our server, how rude! How is our server supposed to hear what I am saying if he is being yelled at.
My family and I have been eating at Asoyama for years, but recent experience is pushing me to find a new place. It was renamed Sato Asoyama recently and I believe is under new ownership. We've ordered twice from there through Skip the Dishes, both times the order was messed up. The first time, one of the soup bowls broke, and half the soup spilled out into the plastic bag. The second, they forgot to put the noodles in the soup, AND forgot an entire order of sushi. July 21, we went in person. The table we were seated at was dirty, sticky, and not set. The floor under the table was filthy. No condiments on the table; we had to ask our neighbour for soy sauce. My kids received their orders of gyoza and udon, but I didn't receive my bento box until 15+ minutes later. And the miso soup with the bento didn't come until AFTER the box did. I noticed the prices had jumped considerably - bentos used to be $16-18 for dinner, now they are that price at lunch, and $24-26 for dinner. Outrageous that there's an $8 difference on the bentos from lunch to dinner service: for the same size serving. We won't be back, there's plenty of good sushi in Transcona/EK who will appreciate my business.
