Nicolino's - Winnipeg

Happy to support one of my favorite restaurants in WinnipegI have been coming here for years and have always found the staff energetic and courteous.

Was feeling like Italian as I hadn't eaten it in a while.

The food was ok (although I've had much better Italian food) but pricey. They give you lunch menu and then charge dinner prices. The place is nice if you pretend the view isn't Pembina highway. This is Winnipeg, not New York City guys!

Nicolino's has been a fixture in South Winnipeg for some time...never fails to please. While not off the charts, the food has always been consistently decent and well-prepared. They finally updated the place and things are looking fresher. Menu had a change-up too, but most of the old favourites are still there: the yummy calamari, the cheese salad and those classic thin-crust pizzas. I've always been a sucker for their chicken parm. Sadly, South Pembina Highway is awash in mostly fast food joints, sushi, burger or pizza chains...given the limited options, Nicolino's is the best bet in the area by a long shot. The attached Orbit Room Lounge is completely at odds with the restaurant...I've never quite figured it out...and IMO, the noise/music and trashiness of it takes away from the overall ambiance of Nicolino's. If it wasn't for that, I'd up the rating to "very good".

On a Friday night spur of the moment visit with my son and an out of town guest, the hosts were welcoming and worked us into their full reservation. The food was excellent and the service was also.
