Restaurant atmosphere, where a late meal would she have with an eclectic group of companions politicists, sex trade workers, criminal lawyers, band members, drug dealers, students and others looking for an amazing eating experience. everyone was cool to come for the great food. the personal was also amazing with owners singh about all that. a few years ago opened singh fortune cooking and his brother took the lead at sumhay. eating remained quite similar, and although I moved to cooking, my strange traveling to sumhay were still satisfying and remembering the last meal. recently I heard that the restaurant was closed, but I drove past and needed a late lunch, saw an open sign so swinging for their famous deluxe wonton soup. the place had been fixed and actually looked really nice inside. there were young people who appeared beautifully to walk the place and obviously new owners. but when my beloved suppe arrived, it was very disappointing. the broth was really bad and the elegant chicken broth was replaced by a beef-based broth that tasted of fat/grass and was really inconspicuous. the victors themselves were simply in order, but a far cry from the demanding that served in the original restaurant. if they want to take over a restaurant and keep the name, they better do their dishes so well or better. to date can only lead to disappointment and I fear it will fail. So, change the name or try to find out what this strange little place made so amazing. I feel sad to say that when people ran it seemed so nice. Maybe it's worth trying to try some of their original dishes, but this one example was not encouraging.
The first time to be here and will surely be our regular place to get Chinese food. the lemon chicken is great. no creepy yellow sauce or too much broth. it's so perfect. that is amazing. only the correct amount of lemon. mandel garnelen yum yum yum. but a little hot when you get them first. fired rice and also a bark dish. everything was delicious and not greasy. so amazing. the restaurant is simple, but that doesn't matter. eating is sooo good.
I was born and raised in Winnipeg and discovered this hidden gem years ago. Even though I moved away from Winnipeg years ago, I always make sure to book flights home when Sumhay Open is open! Their crispy ginger beef, deluxe wonton soup, sizzling plate of shrimp with black bean sauce, and Singapore noodles are all among the best dishes I've ever had. I have yet to try anything from their menu that was less than excellent! The decor and location may not be ideal, but the food is definitely worth it.
Maybe if they have a little better lunch, but we have selected the menu for lunch and the food was not bad in average, not great. It's better out there.
By far Winnipeg and possible even in western Canada best Chinese restaurant has been a regular visit ever time. that decor is lacking and the outside looks a bit poor but it is completely made up for in the food. if you like wonton soup...go with the deluxe wonton phenomenal! well flavored and fresh ingredients.
