I wanted to eat in winston salem to celebrate my conclusion, and graylyn was the best choice. Not only was eating amazing, but we could go around the thing and make photos. it was incredible. When we first came there, we went through a side door and were lost. someone went to us and helped us find the dining room. the staff is very friendly and helpful. I recommend the hotel graylyn for family and friends when they visit me.
Our drinks and dinners were good in every sight. the venue is beautiful and it is worth building in time for a tour through the main floor. the Persian card room is a must. I am glad that I had read the reviews because I would never have seen the tiny, tiny bite at the end of the first page of the menu that a service fee of 22% would be added to the bill! also it was helpful to know that the parking space for the resaurant is not well marked and that there is practically no sin to help. I will return because the place is so beautiful, the service so good and eating great!
The food was absolutely wonderful!!! And the prices are very reasonable. Our service was great!! Loved the estate building!! Only issue we had at all was when presented with the bill, there was not an itemized receipt. Not a big deal because we still had a menu so we could figure out who owed what. So I put the tip in the proper place and signed off. NEVER DID I EVER IMAGINE THAT THERE WAS ALREADY 20% ADDED. Not sure why because we were only a party of four. Noticed when we had left and were figuring out each person's bill. So our server received about $80 for service. None of us were very happy about that. So BEWARE and look at the very bottom of the receipt to see if the tip has already been added.
I wanted SO much to have a great dining experience. After many years of going to a family dinner at the Old Salem Tavern after the Old Salem Christmas Candle Tea, the Tavern closed and I hoped Graylyn would become our new traditional family Christmas dinner after Old Salem. The food was great! However, the dining experience was very disappointing for several reasons: (1) Even after arriving at the address, we had no idea where the restaurant was and had to call them to ask where to park and how to get in. No signage at all. (2) Walking up the sidewalk to enter the restaurant, we had to hear a very loud, prolonged, very profane yelling match between two employees standing outside a kitchen door. (3) When they seated us, they walked us through a couple beautiful dining rooms and then sat us alone at a table on the back enclosed porch. (4) The service was very slow by a waitress who was not even marginally friendly. (5) Our table was never even asked if we would like dessert or coffee. We were going to ask when she came back to the table, but after about twenty minutes of waiting, we were ready to go. I almost never complain about anything, but again, I had wanted SO much for this to be a great dining experience. I even told my family that I had a wonderful surprise for them for dinner that evening. Regretfully, it was not!
