Despite one of the dishes tasting above average, I did not feel like it was good value for money. I was disappointed to not receive the 10% or 11% collection discount, as I had ordered and collected my food from the shop. It seems that the discount may only apply to online orders, but this should be made clear at the point of ordering in the shop. I felt like I was charged restaurant prices for a takeaway, which was a bit off-putting. There were no complimentary poppadoms or chutney, which is fine but worth noting. The food itself was decent, although the bhuna was lacking in depth and had too much sweetness. The vindaloo had a good amount of heat but lacked in meat quantity. Overall, I think Red Fort could improve on their value for money aspect, especially for customers looking for a hearty meal.
Do not even bother. I have never had a meal as bad as this anywhere in the world. The service was incredibly slow and terrible, and one of the staff members seemed extremely drunk. They were completely disheveled and uncoordinated. The food was just as bad – I received a butter dish that was a disgusting yellow color and tasted worse than a sauce from a jar. We will not be coming back, as Gordon Ramsay would say, "what a shame."
We were disappointed with our order of two tikka masalas as we received tikka masala chicken with Korma sauce. The sauce had a powdery texture that made it difficult to eat, and the naan bread seemed like it had been reheated in a microwave. Overall, we were not impressed with the quality of our meal.
I can't comment on the eating in option this review is for the Red Fort takeaway. It.is.INCREDIBLE. The first time I ordered through Just Eat (now switched to ordering direct from Red Fort as it's cheaper) was purely by chance. They were cheap so I went with them, with low expectations due to the price. Oh my god was I WRONG!! Every single dish was full of flavour, and beautifully cooked, from the perfect onion bahji to the soft sheek kebab. But the main point to note is the lamb they use. If you're of a certain age you will remember when EVERY Indian restaurant used those lovely chunks of lamb, instead of the miserable, cheap and nasty marbled strips half of them use today. Red Fort use CHUNKS of lamb, that are so soft they almost melt in your mouth. And ZERO gruesome white tubing either. Absolutely incredible quality of food for the price. Don't be fooled by how cheap Red Fort are support a wonderful, top notch establishment that REALLY make the effort to get their food right.
On a recent fortnight's visit to Woking, I returned many times to this wonderful, family-run restaurant. The friendly hosts were very welcoming, and ready to share their knowledge of the exquisite food on the menu. Every dish I had was delicious, and very satisfying. Make sure you pay this gem a visit! You won't be disappointed. I look forward to the next time.
