Unfortunately, I had a very negative experience at this restaurant tonight. I ordered two homemade Angus Burger-Deluxe meals and specifically requested plain hamburgers with lettuce and tomato, no added sauces or mustard. However, when I arrived to pick up my order, the staff informed me that they only had bacon cheeseburgers. Despite explaining that I had placed an order for plain hamburgers, they insisted they only served bacon cheeseburgers. I canceled my order and even tried to call back to clarify, but the person on the phone hung up on me. Later, I noticed a sign outside the restaurant advertising "Homemade Burgers" and a menu displaying burgers as well. It seems like the staff should be aware that they indeed serve burgers.
Have eaten at the Highland on several occasions and must say that I have not been disappointed. The restaurant is relatively small in size although there are two separate dining areas that could accommodate a business meeting or large group. The Highland is one of those stops that offers a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. By observation I would suggest that it has become a repeat "stopping spot" for regulars as on each occasion that I was in attendance the Cook and Serving Staff knew the majority of Customers by name and exchanged friendly greetings throughout the meal. On each visit we were greeted with a friendly smile which carried over into excellent and knowledgeable level of service. The menu offers standard fare + daily specials at price points that are more than reasonable. The homemade soups are exceptional. It is a family friendly restaurant that makes a point of catering to it's community members and I'm sure their favourite foodstuffs. Although not "fancy" in decor, it provided a comfortable setting and seating arrangement as well as being "spic and span" clean. There is limited parking but spaces are available in close proximity to the restaurant. The hours of operation are limited. We would highly recommend it to those looking for a good meal at a good price prepared and served by good people in a welcoming environment. It has become one of our "stops along the way"... ***1/2 stars. Darrell & Lisa Harper
This is an interesting restaurant in that they have a beautiful dining area in the front, but no one uses it. The locals all go to the back, where the place represents a country diner. With that being said, this is the place to try out the Bacon Cheese Burger, especially if you are a burger fan like I am. This place scores a 10 out of 10 for their burger and the price is very reasonable. Just one warning, they are closed at 3pm except for Fridays and Sundays, so this is a lunch stop not a supper stop.
We have passed through Embro many times enroute from Burlington to visit family in Huron County but had never had the time to visit this mom-pop local restaurant; largely because of our travel timing. The restaurant operates 7 days a week 8am-3pm.Yesterday we lucked out and went by right about noon.My wife ordered the homemade burger special with a half order of onion rings. The burger was divine and the half order of rings was bigger than what most restaurants call a full order.I ordered the liver with onions special which came piping hot and about the best I think I have ever had; well cooked and succulent, complemented with crisp but light french fries. The chicken with rice soup was a delightful prelude to all that followed, with fresh coffee that put Timmy on the truck. Before anyone concludes we own the place or know them ... the answer is No and No ... just two pleasantly surprised and pleased folks that were passing through at the right time. This was an unexpected find that we will revisit on the next opportunity. Don't miss this place.
