We had to chase it up with manager. We then had to wait 50 mins for meal to arrive, it was passed 22.00 before we ate. I had lamb which was nice enough but gravy far too thick looked like made out of granules! It certainly was not worth £120 price tag which had 12% service charge which I object to. I tip what I think its worth thankyou. Wont go back for sure!
I have always loved this Hotel. This December was our 4th visit. However, it’s not a great place to eat, if you have food allergies now. The menus both for breakfast and an evening meal have the minimum of choice. I’m Celiac and dairy free and was shocked that there is no alternative choices for anything. The breakfast is not good at all and other than requesting gf bread which you have to ask for and you only receive one postage stamp piece of it ! The rest of the breakfast you are left with the minimum amount of choice that are safe to eat. It was sad that’s there is no dairy free yogurt no GF cereal no gf pastries or biscuits. Couldn’t even eat the sausages or mushrooms this very much limits what I would call ‘the hearty breakfast’. If you like sitting watching people tuck in then it’s the place to be! We found the evening meal just as limiting I couldn’t even have any potatoes with any meal no starter other than veg and unless you like garden salad or plain vegetables with a steak your pretty much stuck. This is really rather poor for a hotel restaurant of this standard. Luckily most local restaurants cafe have an abundance of choice so I didn’t starve snd the food in establishments was over and above both in quality and choice. But it’s put a damper on whether I would return which is sad because I have always enjoyed staying at this hotel until now.
Me and my friends decided to come to The Lygon Arms for a drink on a Friday night, instantly we came into an unsurprisingly empty bar and were met with a snide comment about not being able to open a stiff door, We went and sat down to enjoy a pint spending 6 pounds which is easily one of the highest priced pints in the town). We sat down for about 15 minutes and a few more people came along to sit down and were rudely refused entry for not instantly purchasing any alcohol 2 of which were designated drivers and one a recovering alcoholic. We were just sat quietly enjoying a drink and we were met with without a doubt the worst service I have ever experienced in my life, which I am not using lightly. I would avoid this place like the plague. As a local I would recommend instead of wasting your time here going to: The Noel Arms, The Bakers Arms, The Volunteer Inn or The Cotswold House Hotel to name a few.
Me and my friends went for a drink, and I found that the staff were very rude to us and were making fun of my friend who was staying sober as he was the designated driver. My mate is a recovering alcoholic very rudely for not consuming alcohol and made us feel unwelcome. I was made to feel very uncomfortable and wanted to leave. The bar staff called Jo was incredibly snide and was very sarcastic. I’ve never left a review before but this was unacceptable behaviour and very bad business. I think it’s safe to say I’m never going back. Also very expensive. I hope this place closes down.
Food was awful. 4th time at the James Martin Grill each time we were very disappointed, never again. We have seen many changes over the years and have always returned. Regrettably the food served since the James Martin launch has not lived up to expectations and has deteriorated in quality.
