This cafe is extremely popular and offers a fantastic selection of treats to enjoy either in the cafe or to take away. The staff is very friendly and welcoming.
We waited for what felt like a long time before a disheveled young girl, wearing a fleece and a jumper tied around her waist, appeared to take our order. She didn't offer a welcoming smile. Our food and drinks took a while to arrive, and the young waitress seemed more interested in chatting with regulars at other tables. After our food was brought out, no one checked on us to see if everything was okay. The same unkempt waitress struggled to carry our plates, even balancing one on her chest. The coffee was just okay, as we had finished it by the time the food arrived. The toasties were made with basic bread and not anything special. The toilets were very dirty, with missing tiles on the floor and stains near the urinal. The hand dryer was ineffective at drying hands. At £24, I was not impressed with the service, food quality, and cleanliness of the restaurant. I felt that I would have received better service, food, and cleanliness at McDonald's. I do not plan on returning to this restaurant.
This restaurant is a great spot for a light lunch or snack. They offer freshly baked bread, cakes, and a good selection of menu options. The rarebit dishes, made with a 'secret' cheese recipe, were especially tasty. The service was friendly and the tables were nicely spread out. It's a good place to grab a coffee or light meal. However, there is little sign of its Swiss origins.
Best coffee in the High Street. Second only to Coopers. If you like flat whites that are made strong and less milky. Burgers is the place!
