Definitely not worth the rate or time to travel to unless you are met with extreme luxuries and complimentary service.
An amazing place. I've heard others seeing it for the first time and can't believe how huge and beautiful the place is. The stone fireplace with a clock. Two floors overlooking the lobby after coming from your room from each wing. An upper deck outside of the second floor to watch Old Faithful and sunrise. Yes there are 2 places to eat, a bar and a gift shop.Rooms: Clean. Comfortable beds.Nearby activities: Places to eat. Gift Shops. Gas and groceries nearby. Walking distance to the Upper Geyser Basin. Old Faithful in view at the inn or walk closer to have a seat waiting for Old Faithful to erupt. One of my favorites is a trail taking you up a hill to overlook Old Faithful Inn and geyser.Safety: Signs warning about the danger of walking off the boardwalks and approaching wildlife. Also supplies you need while hiking to assure your safety and health.Walkability: Mentioned above.Food drinks: If you prefer to have a sit down meal, there's the cafeteria or eat and hike, there's a deli. Or walk to the grocery for food to go.
A must-stay if visiting Yellowstone. The rooms are rustic and small. But the Inn has so much history and charm it is easy to overlook. Evening musical entertainment in the upper hall overlooking the lobby is a must. Sip cocktails from the large deck overlooking Old Faithful. Maybe spot a grazing Bison just in front of the hotel! Great trails through the thermal fields surrounding Old Faithful. Take a tour of the hotel to learn the history. Make your dinner reservations early for the dining room.
DO. NOT. EAT. HERE.If I could give this place a NEGATIVE rating I would.I should have believed the reviews others left.....but I didn 't...and here we are.For starters...our staff and all staff we interacted with were doing an OUTSTANDING job and trying to do the best they could with what they had....But...thats where it ended.Look at my pictures. The root cause of frustration....if you take reservations...you should be prepared to have enough food for everyone!!!The food they did have, was absolutely disgusting.Chicken was boiled with some type of sauce thrown on忙No short rib....substituted Hot DogsNo fresh vegetables...substituted frozen broccoliNo croissant bread puddingNo Gluten FreeNo BreadNo Vanilla Cream SauceNo baked beans ... Substituted some concoctionYou get the drift.... the pic attached with everything crossed off tells you the story.
My recent stay at the Old Faithful Inn, managed by Xanterra, left me with mixed feelings. While the location is undeniably breathtaking, there were several aspects of the experience that fell short of expectations.Affordability:The Deluxe room I booked was far from what I anticipated. For a staggering $798 per night (including taxes), I expected more than what felt like a budget hotel or dorm room. My room had two queen-sized beds and a private bathroom, but it lacked modern amenities such as air conditioning, television, and internet. What 's more, daily housekeeping services were not provided unless specifically requested, which was an inconvenience.Maintenance:Maintenance issues were noticeable throughout the Inn. The window in my room had a significant stain on the screen, and there were visible signs of neglect, like unpainted door gasket replacements. General cleanliness, especially in the main hallways, left much to be desired. For instance, I spotted a dental floss strip in the hallway that remained unattended for three days. The bathroom amenities were also a letdown. The soap containers in our bathroom shower and sink were empty upon arrival, and despite notifying the front desk, it took multiple calls over two days to resolve this issue. The desk clerk 's attitude left much to be desired, as she seemed indifferent to our concerns. I observed a similar attitude among some of the bar attendants, which was disheartening.Service and Dining:The service quality was inconsistent at best. One employee even confided that the Inn retained some underperforming staff due to a lack of replacements, with staff members hired for only six months a year. This likely contributed to the indifferent service we encountered. The dining experience left me underwhelmed. The food was mediocre and overpriced, with the same menu offered every night. The buffet, costing around $50 per person including taxes, lacked variety and quality. To make matters worse, our order for an alcoholic beverage during one of our sit-down meals was never fulfilled. The buffet setup was also less than ideal, with utensils that were too short for self-serving, causing them to slide into the food bins. The buffet area lacked adequate staff presence, with only occasional checks on food levels in the bins.In Conclusion:The Old Faithful Inn is undoubtedly located in a stunning natural setting, but the overall experience falls short of the premium price tag. Maintenance issues, indifferent staff, and subpar dining experiences are concerning aspects of what should be a top-tier destination within our nation 's cherished landmarks. It 's disheartening to witness what appears to be a for-profit endeavor operating within these hallowed grounds. Our government should consider addressing the issue of private profiteering within such iconic landmarks.
