It was a cold day and we had been wandering around, and ended up near the Minster, we had visited the Hole in the Wall a long time ago, but a recommendation from a friend said give it a try its very good. We arrived just after 12 and it was busy, luckily we found a table and sat down and looked at the menu, what we did see what the big yorkshire specials, which can with Beef, Turkey or sausage, this is what people where going on about. We ordered starters and main which where 1 Beef and 1 Turkey big yorkshire. The pub was very busy and Yorkshires where a firm favorite, our starters arrived in good time and where perfect and a short wait the mains arrived and again excellent quality and very tasty with perfectly cooked meat and veg. The visit was very good and we will certainly be back as it was a perfect lunch.
Called in for drinks and a late lunch with friends. The bar staff were really friendly and helpful and there was a good range of drinks on offer. The food was amazing. In particular, the steak was cooked to absolute perfection and there is obvious care taken. Fantastic afternoon and will definitely be making a return visit.
Visited here 3rd January for food. Before we went I rang to book a table but was told that you cannot do this. Walked into the pub and there was a table with a reserved sign on, a family came in a short while later and sat at the table playing board games. We ordered 3xmeals and they were all very poor quality. I ordered the sausage and mash which consisted of the thinnest sausages I have ever seen, all burnt and were not Cumberland sausages as described, a small blob of mash and peas, not worth nearly £12. My wife had smothered chicken, smallest chicken breast I have seen and oven chips. We then went to order desserts only to be told the chef was on his break so would have had to wait ang hour, never heard anything like it!!!! I wish we had gone to Wetherspoons and paid half the price for a far superior meal. Lived in York for 6yrs now and I am sick of being served sub standard food.
Went in on our 1st day for a couple drinks before we headed back to our guest house at night Busy but not crowded with friendly staff quick service. Plenty lagers on tap a fine line up of ales etc Didn't have anything to eat but the food menu was quite varied
