I like the stir fried green beans, sesame chicken, Mongolian beef and mu shu pork. My partner loves the jalapeno pork. Plus, its always a good sign that the food is good when you see chinese families eating there. its a tiny hole in the wall but the food is reliably good.
Hidden Dragon does something really really good. They make awesome traditional Szechuan. If you like the American variety of Chinese food that 's fine, they have that too. But for those 'in the know ' it 's their traditional food that brings us back time and again. Don 't be afraid to venture outside of what you might be used to. Try the Mapo Tofu and Romeo and Juliette. There 's a vast selection of traditional dishes to try and some are really spicy too. Hidden Dragon is easily my favorite restaurant. In fact I am going there right now!
The traditional food is great. We didn't have the American style of Chinese food. We ordered the spicy chicken and the veggie lo mein, along with a side of dumplings. Everything was great.
If you don't enjoy this restaurant, then you're definitely missing out. Skip the Americanized versions of "Chinese" food; this place offers authentic Szechuan cuisine that's truly exceptional, along with dishes from a few other regions. The owner hails from the Szechuan province, so that's their true specialty. Be prepared to do a little research before you order, as there are two menus, and one of them isn't in English.
I’ve seen a range of reviews for Hidden Dragon, and I find that I agree with many of them. However, I haven't noticed much discussion regarding why some people dislike the food, so I’d like to address that. When I first visited Hidden Dragon, I opted for the American Chinese dishes, and as some others have mentioned, it wasn’t the greatest—actually, it was quite lackluster. This was disappointing since I had heard so many good things about the food. It wasn’t until a few weeks later that I discovered Hidden Dragon is actually celebrated for its traditional Chinese cuisine, rather than the American fare like sweet and sour pork. I had no idea they offered traditional dishes because all I saw on the menu were American Chinese options. A friend informed me that you have to specifically request the Chinese menu; otherwise, you'll only be presented with the American menu. I suspect that if you’re Chinese, they might automatically offer you the traditional menu, likely assuming that Americans prefer the more familiar dishes. On subsequent visits, I asked for the Chinese menu and was thrilled to find a wide array of authentic dishes to choose from. That visit was a revelation; I tried the Romeo and Juliette (beef tripe) along with a hot pot dish, and both were exceptional—far exceeding my expectations in portion and flavor. Since then, I’ve returned at least a dozen times, sampling various dishes, and I’ve never been disappointed with the traditional offerings. My advice for anyone visiting Hidden Dragon is to request the traditional Chinese menu. Trust me, you won't be disappointed!
