Great food and a beautifully decorated restaurant with nice tables, glasses and amazing fresh baked bread. If you're wondering why there's only one man working the restaurant, that's because there is and he does a good job. So all of these people complaining about their ten minute wait for a glass of wine, understand that the man is a senior citizen who is essentially working 4 jobs at the same time and still remains in a good mood and is very thankful for your business. I was very impressed with how well he runs the place with no staff, if I was getting out of the military soon I might have even asked for a job application! The food is excellent, my wife had the ravioli and a salad with HOMEMADE dressing, while I had the chicken marsala. I would highly recommend both.
The owner is the host, chef and server. The ambiance is very authentic. Everything is prepared fresh daily (bread, all the pastas, etc. We had the lasagna and the fettuccine with meat sauce. Fabulous! Don't be in a hurry when you go. Sit back, relax and soak up the atmosphere.
Greeted by 3 hellos as we walked in the door. Brief wait to get menus and seated. Fresh Bread and refilled [Pellogrino] bottled water.. Looked over the brief menu but a good selection Lasagna for the lady and Ravioli w/meat sauce for me.. The place was busy with about 15 people but the food was steady coming out of the kitchen.. Our selections came out to our table and looked delicious.. Lasagna was bubbling hot and the ravioli very hot..We both took a bite and was EXTREMELY satisfied with the taste.. Homemade pasta, delicious cheese and wonderful sauce.. Got some dessert to go but have not tried it yet... One warning CA$H ONLY So your not surprised
As soon as we walked in, we were thrilled to see that the former Yokozuna restaurant had been completely and tastefully refurbished. We arrived shortly after 5 PM, and it took a moment for the staff to notice us, which was understandable given the summer heat was still around 100 degrees and the kitchen fans were running full blast. Our host and waiter were excellent, making us feel welcome, and they treated us to freshly baked rolls that were hot and delicious. He explained that the owner and chef, one of the two brothers running the restaurant, is from Genoa, Italy, and he knowledgeably discussed the evening's menu with us (the menu changes, and what we received didn’t closely resemble what was available on the restaurant's website). We began with a salad that was a perfect mix of fresh, crunchy greens and cheesy goodness. My wife ordered the eggplant Parmesan, while I decided to try the lasagna. I’m a fan of well-prepared lasagna (not the frozen kind from Costco that people bring to parties) and have enjoyed it in Italian restaurants from New York to Florence, New Jersey. As we awaited our meals, other couples started to arrive. When our dishes were served, they were delightful. My lasagna was, without a doubt, the best I've ever had, even compared to those I've eaten in Italy and throughout the East Coast. I've had some great lasagna before, but this was pure perfection. My wife was equally enthusiastic about her eggplant Parmesan, and when I sampled it, I could tell it was the real deal. The eggplant melted in the mouth, and the flavors were heavenly. Everything at That’s Amore is homemade—from the pasta to the rolls and even the desserts. The menu simply listed "chocolate cake," but it was so much more than that. Service was slightly slow at times; it seems the brothers are still figuring out how many staff members they need for a given night. But this is a restaurant where you don’t need to rush. It's not McDonald's! The dining room has a pleasant decor, the music is lovely, and the wine works its magic. It’s worth taking your time here. After 18 years in the desert around Joshua Tree, I would rate this as the best restaurant in Yucca Valley and Joshua Tree. We will definitely be coming back. It’s truly worth it! Note: We have continued to dine at That’s Amore and have found the quality and service to remain excellent.
