The next time, our waitress came over, said, i'm handling 10 tables, so I encourage you to give me your full order now not sure when I get back. Used to be good but as I've been coming here for years, I see a new management crowd, so I'm guessing someone new is in charge and I'll go spend my Zermatt francs elsewhere. Too bad, great location, bad management.
We had a lovely experience the night we went. Dinner was early (6:00pm) and there were plenty of outdoor tables from which to choose. The service was casual but we were not in a hurry so it did not bother us. I enjoyed my raclette. Friend order rack of lamb. I think it was the wrong place to order that. Hers was rare, hard to cut but she said tasty. They did not have a true steak knife! I think restaurant owns the entire side street. Sometimes it's best to keep it simple. We did have to ask them to turn off heaters. It was an unusually warm night.
This is a restaurant to try while walking on the streets of Zermatt. Initially we were quite bummed with the rule of 1 main course dish per head. Generally, our kids cannot finish one whole meal. We were 2 adults and 2 kids under age 12. Anyway we sat to order and tried our best to order 1 dish per head. We were happy that the food was yum. We ordered a kid meal just because we had to. It was wasted and we took it home. The other dishes like sirloin steak, cheese fondue and spaghetti cream with egg and bacon were yummmy!!! Whatever was left, we took back with us as we do not like to waste food. They had shawls kept for use on the chairs outside due to the cold. This was a very unique concept and good thought we had never seen before and were quite impressed with it. I would've given a 5 star for the restaurant but I believe that their one meal per head rule either forces one to eat more than they can or forces one to waste food. Neither sits right with me.
Delicious food and courteous servers, Walliserkanne serves a mixture of Swiss and Italian food. We particularly enjoyed the chicken breast and fries. The food portion is huge. You may opt for a smaller serving (but this is only available on the pizzas our chicken breast and pasta were not allowed to be downsized). Each person on the table needs to order one dish and one drink which eliminates sharing as an option. If you are not a big eater, the other restaurants in the vicinity allows sharing.
The food is amazing. So delicious and good portions. The Toblerone Brownie was soooo good. I was a single diner, so I wasn't bothered by the One Main meal per customer minimum as that's what I was having anyway. But while I sat there about 4 couples and 2 groups of 4 up and left once hearing the rule. There were only about 4 tables besides myself being used. Keeping this rule. Loses the business . Doesn't seem like a viable business decision but, as I said. The food is perfect.
