Teosintle - ZIHUATANEJO

This was our 3rd trip to Zihua, but our first to Teosintle. Although several restaurants are open only on Thursdays, these folks are open all week. It was well worth a cab ride to dine with locals and enjoy delicious pozole blanco. Great family atmosphere, complete with papel picado and a guitarist/singer. We loved the food and experience. Try it, please!

The best pozole from Guerrero, Mexico. I ever had. The place is nice and the service is very good, however I found the food to be extraordinary. Great place to eat on thursdays and saturdays!

Pozole day (Thursday is a Guererro tradition and while there are many pozole restaurants in Zihuatanjo, Teosintle is our favorite. We like the wide, spacious open air dining area. Very pleasant place to sit and enjoy the meal. Of course the main event is the pozole...a hominy soup with choice of chicken or pork in a savory sauce (you 'll have a choice of green or red broth we like green . A small plate of 'add ins ' accompanies the pozole (pork rind, hard cheese, radish, green onion, fried mini tortilla withe cheese . We put all of these in the soup and wait for the luscious broth to meld the flavors. So satisfying and nutritious. My husband likes the mezcal chaser after the meal! BTW they also do GREAT tamales here...get some to go! But plan plenty of time...service is very Mexican... No rush!

After getting some advice from various cab drivers that this place was worth a visit, we devoted on of our two pozole Thursdays to Teosintle. The cab drive there was thrilling, to say the least, with the most creative left turn across five lanes of traffic I've ever witnessed. The pozole was the best I've had in Zihua very rich and flavourful, but the botanas were just OK (much better at Santa Prisca or El Profe). My wife had the chile relleno and it was phenomenal. Service was excellent and I enjoyed the open air feel of the restaurant. Very clean, too. Definitely worth the effort.
