Shin-sen-gumi Yakitori Men-ya

We ordered the yellowtail collar, beef tongue skewer, and shrimp tempura udon, and everything was absolutely delicious at a reasonable price. We also appreciated that there was no wait time at all, which was great! The servers were very attentive and provided us with extra bowls and plates since we were sharing as a family.

I visited this restaurant on a Sunday night with a larger group, and we were seated immediately. The staff was incredibly attentive and friendly. We started off by ordering yakitori and some appetizers. I made a mistake by ordering ramen, thinking the yakitori and appetizers wouldn't be very filling, but they turned out to be quite substantial and absolutely delicious. Everything was well-seasoned and cooked to perfection, with each dish bursting with flavor—even the mushrooms! I highly recommend trying the beef tongue; it was of excellent quality and had a wonderful texture, not at all rubbery. The takoyaki was also very impressive. For dessert, I opted for the matcha ice cream, which was enjoyable but not particularly extraordinary. I will definitely be returning to indulge in more of the yakitori!

However, when it comes to food and ramen, I much prefer the Rosemead location. The atmosphere there is more reminiscent of a traditional small ramen shop in Japan, where you simply enjoy your meal and move on. The food quality, from the noodles to the broth, is also much closer to what I would expect from an authentic Japanese ramen restaurant compared to this location. While the food here isn't bad— I did enjoy the chicken thigh yakitori— I find this place to be quite overpriced for the quality offered. On a positive note, the server was very friendly, and I really liked the vibe during lunchtime. Nevertheless, if you’re searching for exceptional ramen, there are certainly better options within a 15-minute radius.

Food is okay Not what it was before! The passion is gone, the Japanese ambiance is dead! The service is just okay! Not sure I want to go back!
